I appreciate there will be many of these threads already, But decided to start another one.

Saturday will be my first time at goodwood, and i was wondering about the following things.

1) What time would be best to arrive to avoid the worst traffic and are there any roads to avoid at all costs?

2)What is the best/nearest Car park to the event, Can you choose a closer one, so you have less distance to walk or do they decide where you will park?

3) I appreciate the food will be expensive, but can anybody give me a rough idea of the price of, say, burger and chips and a cup of tea, and what other types of food are available?

4) Any other tips for the day that you've learned over the years?

Thanks.

Just got back from todays Goodwood.
I don't know what car park I ended up in as I had no idea where I was going, but it was a bloody long hike across the golf course to get in. I arrived around 10am and the traffic was gridlock. I reckon there was tailbacks around 2-3 miles going in!

As for food. From what I saw, burgers were around £6, fish and chips £8.50, bacon roll £5 and bottles of drink were around £3

It was my first time at Goodwood too and I couldnt get over how vast it is, a good pair of shoes is definitely needed!

Get there early.

Go watch the rally stage. I'm amazed at the number of people I speak to who have been there, but have never wandered the whole way up the hill!

Yep its vast, according to my sons iPhone app, we walked 18km today.

Almost tempted to take my bicycle for Sunday. Can't see it going down to well in the crowds though.

I agree on the get there early. If you're averse to paying the food prices, I suggest you get a ruck sack & take your own supplies. Goodwood also seems to on many occasions have much better weather than further north as a result of the on-shore breeze from the sea so make sure you take sun cream, a hat and carry plenty to drink if it's warm.....it was chuffing warm today and we were hiding from the sun by lunchtime.

Do a recce of the event by getting a map/course itinerary and decide where/when you need to be places as the classes can be twice a day which helps with your viewing schedule - The paddock can often be a good place to start if it's quiet and you want photos without too many standing in your way!

The inside of the track by the starting line is a good viewing point (especially if it's hot and you can stand in the shade of the trees). Outside the front of the house and also up on the bank by Molecombe Corner just after the Porsche Experience Centre are other good places to view. Above all, have a great time!

I was at Goodwood today, I'm staying in the Park hotel just down the road. We arrived at the gates by 8am and were parked up and at the main entrance by 8:15am.

I can only imagine tomorrow, Sat & Sunday being considerably worse. If you plan on arriving before 9am it's advantageous, we blitzed around the Moving Motor Show and got onto the good stuff early doors an then had a nice relaxing afternoon.

Oh and it is spectacular!!! With the hill climb being far more active over the weekend there will be PLENTY to see!

PS You can get away with taking a rucksack full of drinks & snacks in. Well worth it when a pint of Thatchers was £4.40 and a bottle of water £2-2.50. That said a cold drink & a shady spot in the paddock was bliss today.
