What's this Thursday all about? Is it worth a day off work and a 250 mile drive, I have no interest in seeing any new cars.
My neighbour has just offered me his tickets.

yes is the simple answer, especially if you have never been before.

Walk past the moving motor show and go over the track. Look around the trade stands etc and go over the other side to look around by the House, at the sculpture/display in front of the house and the paddocks around that side. look round the paddocks as early as you can. Walk/get a tractor up to the rally stage (if you like rallying).

As minimal freebie tickets have been given away this year it should be fairly quietish and a good chance to wonder around to get a feel of things

I've been on a Saturday several times but never a Thursday, but have been given tickets for this Thursday.

So apart from less crowding (which I'll be very pleased about) what else is different on a Thursday? Are all the cars in the paddock to look around? Is anything going up the hill or is this Fri/Sat/Sun only? Sounds like the rally stage is active?

thanks

the only cars going up the hill are from the Moving Motor Show. if you get there early you can blag a test drive (they put chicanes on the hill to stop over enthusiasm...).
The cars are arriving in the paddocks and the F1 teams are unpacking and everything else is pretty much the same

Booked a drive last year in the Dacia Logan MCi, a beast of a machine with unbridled horsepower.

Having said that, I did get to do the hill-climb.......but V E R Y S.........L........O........W.....L.....Y !!!

What are you driving up the hill tomorrow, Rob? A Gee-Whizz?

I thought most of the MMS slots were taken up before the event - isn't it the case that dealers put their favourite customers/prospects forward for a drive in the latest diseasal stbox, or a passenger ride in their hoon-mobile (like the Volvo Polestar they were haring up there a few years ago). Is there any realistic chance of getting a drive if you rock up at (say) 10am?

The queues at 7.30 would suggest you'v n chance at 10am. some manufacturers, particularly prestige brands, AM, Ferrari etc do prebook rides and have only a limited number available on the day

... which is why I've never bothered hawking around the MMS with the hoi polloi at silly o'clock.
One will be breakfasting at the Kennels instead smile

I don't see the point myself, I think most people just want to say they've driven up the hill, I doubt many of them are serious buyers. For me MMS is to look at the trade stands.

Enjoyed today. Relaxed quieter day with plenty to see before it starts properly tomorrow. Perfect weather helped too!

Back tomorrow for more...

Spent the afternoon at MMS have not been for a few years normally just do Friday. Enjoyed it wasn't to busy and had a chance to look around every thing before the crowds. No traffic getting in.

Went up the hill in the V12 vantage S what was amazing. Never released just how quick the hill is until your on it!

I would definitely recommend popping in for the afternoon if your passing or have an afternoon/evening free

How the hell did you manage that? I was told they were only going to do passenger rides and the queue for it was already about 40 deep 45 mins before they were due to start so I didn't bother.

I took a Lexus RCF up the hill and it was rather fun. I didn't like the look of it at first but its grown on me.

I had a drive up the hill in the RCF Carbon courtesy of PH & Lexus....I was open to the whole BMW M4 rival & whilst 1.16 miles isn't the most ideal test drive distance, it certainly got off the line with a great noise with my foot firmly on the boards & stopped/steered well & definitely turned heads as l "gave it a good spanking" past Lord March's. If I had the money & had to buy a new performance 2+2, I'd certainly return to try it again as it's different to the many M4s etc we're starting to see about.

BTW, I must give a big thanks to PH/Lexus for the opportunity just 11 days after Le Mans....I'm living the dream (& back to the FOS on Sunday having already bought my ticket!) & managed to drag my dad a long for a belated Father's Day present although he was strangely not convinced to hop in the back & see me going up the hill laugh It's not often a stranger tells you to turn off the traction control and give it everything in a car you've not driven before up someone's drive thumbup
