FoS 2014 - Friday
Discussion
i went on Friday to FoS with my daughter who is almost as much of a car nut as I am. As usual we had a wonderful day, and weren't we lucky with the weather? Some observations:
1 As usual the cars are the stars, and as usual there was a stunning array of them, both showing their prowess up the hill or simply looking stunning in the various displays.
2 This year seemed much busier on Friday than previous years - more tickets sold? Occasionally in some areas a bit too busy, e.g. F1 Paddock early afternoon.
3 Very disappointed that no 2014 F1 cars to see (if I'm wrong please correct me, but only 2014 car I saw was on Williams stand, and that, I think, was a demo.)
4 The ruling that to run current F1 cars up the hill was testing is just plain crazy!
5 We both had a fantastic day, as usual, topped off by the Typhoon putting in an appearance as we were leaving.
I think there's every chance we'll be there again next year, and will enjoy it as much all over again.

2, I felt it was busier however the F1 paddock is always rammed after 11am
3, the look rubbish and sound worse. Luckily we have the WEC cars showing us what a real racing series should look and sound like.
4, it's been a rule for the last few years the teams get x amount of test days and x amount of exhibition days. Last year marussia I believe chose to run the car as an exhibition day.
5, Typhoon was a good display and nice to see a change from the previous routines
'Current' F1 cars are normally re-liveried cars from previous years if memory serves, but obviously that's quite noticeable now given the noise difference. Not much Goodwood can do about that given the FIA rules.
I thought it was significantly quieter than the previous 4 or 5 years. I follow the exact same routine every year on a Friday...arrive 6:30, then do the lower paddocks for a couple of hours, then the trade area, then head up to the top of the hill on the trade side to take track photos, then work my way down the paddock side of the hill mid-afternoon. At every point it was at least 50% quieter, maybe people generally arrived later, but even walking back down in the afternoon felt nowhere near as manic as previous.
What I did feel was a bit lacking this year, was non-current supercars, it would be fantastic to see an F40, F50, 250 GTO, 288 GTO, Diablo, Countach, 959 etc screaming up the hill (they've always been a bit thin on this, but this year was particularly noticeable). I appreciate space is extremely limited, but it's one of the few obvious gaps in the line-up.

Here is the Cathedral Paddock at 07:20 on Friday morning...
A few years back nearly every one of these would have been still covered, as it is, it was a photographers playground! About 15 minutes later me and about 5 others were stood there as they removed the cover off of the Ferrari F12 TRS, and a few were happy for kids to sit in various cars in the Supercar Paddock at that time.
I wish I had taken a pic where I was at the top of the hill up until about 10am, deserted!
