Hello, first time poster. We are coming over from the States and will be attending the FOS on Sunday. First time there.

We will be traveling down via train from London that morning, arriving to Chichester, probably in 08:00-09:00 time period. Goodwood suggests taking a bus or taxi from the station, but I have heard of massive traffic issues, so I am wondering the best solution to arrive at Goodwood itself from the station.

Is there an official Goodwood bus from Chichester station or is it part of the normal public transit? What about leaving at night? I am probably going to purchase an open ticket for our return so we are not held to a specific departure.

It seems many of you are driving, but I really appreciate everyone's input and suggestions.

Thank you.
Robert

Traffic is horrific if left late and nothing escapes it. Maybe hire a bike. Pedal powered or petrol. Riders choice. smile

I did have a leaflet of the official goodwood transport timetable from the station but can't find it in my goodwood pile at the moment. I'll have a look in the car for it over the weekend.

A local taxi driver from the station should be able to get you there fairly quickly and drop you off somewhere convenient. Most people use the same route and local knowledge is key

The special bus works very well as it uses local roads as far as the roundabout just before the circuit - another option is the local bus to the supermarket (can't remember exact details) and walk the last bit

Having said that if there's a few of you a taxi from the station is as cheap and there are usually cabs waiting to take you back too

Hi Robert.

Get the bus, it departs from the station, you buy a return ticket which is open so there is no set time. The buses use a different route right into the main entrance and dont take long at all.

Traffic will be busier at that time but not a huge issue with the buses.

And enjoy!

Thank you everyone for your great responses. While you sometimes just need to dive in and figure it out as it happens, I appreciate the insider information. This was an unexpected addition for our trip, so I am really looking forward to it.

Thank you so much!

Robert,

If you can get there any earlier I can't stress the importance of doing so!

I aim to arrive 7am and usually beat 90% of the queues; every minute after 8am can add on 15 minutes to getting in. It really is an enormous event.

Agree with the above, the bus is your best bet. A taxi will be more expensive and just sit in the same traffic.

Have a good weekend!

Tim

Crack of dawn is both traffic avoiding and necessary for a first time to be able to see even half the event in a single day.

There are a number of traffic avoiding routes through Chichester to the circuit - I live south of Chichester and it typically takes me only 5-10 extra minutes than a non fos day to get to the car park.

I think the bus takes a decent route, but seriously, you'll regret not getting into Chichester for 7am...

As I'm local can I suggest an alternative.

Get off the train at Barnham instead of Chichester.

Whilst there is no bus service the local Taxis will be able to get you to one of the entrances without too much hassle.

I appreciate your thoughts and I am always on board with getting there as early as possible but as far as I can tell, no way to do it via train from London any earlier than I am looking at currently. We have plans that run quite late on that Saturday, so going down the day before is not possible, plus with the late date lodging would be unavailable or very expensive.

We'll maximize the day as much as possible and no doubt enjoy ourselves.

Thank you again for everyone's help.
