Newey/Brack GT40
Discussion
I remember reading that the Goodwood entry is rather oversubscribed and therefore invitation only. As such they were able to invite only the finest examples and original cars. I believe that Newey has faced criticism in the past as to the originality of his cars but I understood this to be purely down to the fact their performance was significantly better than in period and this wasn't going unnoticed.
Out of interest, What made you single out the Newey car?

I wasn't intentionally singling this one out, I just wondered how many were originals and continuations. Newey's car seemed to be extra rapid, does anyone know if it had the 289 or the 7l?
I have seen the video, and yes its mental. I just don't see why these ever had such vast rear tyre widths at only 900kg. The contact patch pressure on the tarmac must have been a lot lower than other sports cars of the time?
All this interest, well, my brother in law have found ourselves the new keepers of a part built gt40 rep. Planets aligned, divorces happened and mates rates were done. I hope to put the build diary up on here. We hope to change from mk3 shape back to mk 1.

Certain I heard on the commentary during qually that only 3 were continuation models. As has been said the Newey example has had major rebuilds both in period and under AN's ownership.I have seen the video, and yes its mental. It's a 289 (as in historic homologated form.)
This pic shows the evidence of hard use, the cracks in the aluminum door skin. I was interested to see how it looked close up. Also very interested to see how it would do in the 'normal' Whitsun Trophy against the T70s and McLarens in the hands of Brack

The chassis is steel and the body work is fibreglass (or should be; there was an awful lot of carbon fibre on the cars at Goodwood - including this one) but there is no aluminium body work on a GT40.It's a 289 (as in historic homologated form.)

Great link ta. The chassis numbers dont go up to the later cars though? I.e 68, 69 Lm winners. Anywho that's answered my question, thanks. The car also had a large 'off' at the lemans classic back in 2006 .

Funnily enough at the start of the GT40 race I remarked to my wife, if you want to pick a winner of this race go for car No 5. Why, she asked, because it's Mansell's number 5? No, I said because it's Adian Newey's - he started 4th on the grid but I was proven right at the end!
They were rather gifted the win though by the most appalling driver change by Lynn/Pirro who threw away a commanding lead with their hugely long pitstop.I was lucky enough to be in the pits for the GT40 race on Saturday, and better still I was right beside the Newey/Brack pit (pure chance) and I was like a little kid in sweet shop heaven!
