After going for the first six or seven yaers and loving it but becoming bored with the same old same old each year, we limited ourselves to every other year. This year, I was surprised to find the catering decimated between Woodcote and Lavant - only one stall for non GRRC members - and very much reduced at Lavant - only five outlets I think. Prices seemed a little higher than I expected too, but it was never a cheap day out anyway. Added to this, there were queues for both sexes' toilets which I have never ever seen since the very first year.

There were too many long intervals between too few races and some total nonsense too.

The lunch interval thing about the Dam Busters was, in my view, well intentioned but a little banal, with no real relationship to the circuit or the motor racing. The reverence shown for various stars and celebs was also not quite to my taste, adding a further layer of superficiality to the event.

So LM (funny I thought that was a big town with a long race in France) ain't getting any more of my dosh. Which is a shame because what I saw on track, I enjoyed.

I think you are asking for trouble if you go to anything for six or seven years in a row. I love the Revival but wouldn't dream of going every year. I know I would become bore with it and moan about how it was better in the good old days, etc. I love air shows, music and holidays too and make a point of trying not to go anywhere more than two years in a row.

I've gone every year since 2001.
I've never been bored - unlike the FOS.

Horses for courses. Some people are happy to stay with the same woman/man year after year...

But - on the upside, look at how much it was posting how you've been loads of times and its not as good as it used to be, etc etc

Goodwood really does throw up the two most amazing "most post" moments of the year for telling people how miserable you were and performing the vital catering comparison...

It was my first ever - and it was brilliant. Had such a good time!

I didn't understand the Dambusters thing, I admit (I said to the person I was with "is it an anniversary or something!?" - apparently not).

But that aside, whole weekend was great. I shall definitely be going next year!

Thoroughly enjoyed my Friday - a shame that the lead dice in the 9 hours tribute was ended by the pit stops, but that made the 'call it a day decision' easy.
Very glad I didn't spend the cash that would have meant having to experience the banality of the pedal car race for a second time.
Did they let the sister sing on Sunday, just to torture the serfs a little more?

It was the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters raid earlier this year - the tribute thing would have made more sense if the Lancaster had been able to make an appearance, but unfortunately it wasn't able to due to the weather.

Great weekend as usual - shame we didn't get a chance to say hi!

It most definitely WAS an anniversary. The Dambuster's Raid was in May 1943 - so 70 years ago this year. The "memorial" was blunted by the fact that the Lancaster was not able to attend due to the excessive wind.
The Lancaster is a regular at the Revival - so tying its appearance in with the 70th Anniversary of the dams raid was a good idea - sadly blunted by its failure to appear this year.

Ah, oops - hadn't realised that. We had radios and were next to speakers but perhaps that bit got missed!

I heard the lancaster itself couldn't make it because of weather - what a shame. I had one fly over my house incredibly low about 6 weeks ago - that was amazing!

Ed - yeah, I was with Jason and John and they said they were texting/trying to arrange, but we didn't manage to do it. A real shame! Will definitely be back next year though biggrin You guys at BTaP?! Will catch up there!

There is only one flying in the UK - so she is rather precious and they are very careful with it.

How did you manage to miss all the TV coverage of the Anniversary back in May? There were lots of programmes about the Dambusters on around 17 May - including a very moving memorial service at Scampton which was televised live by the BBC.

Yep - didn't quite manage it on Saturday, and we were planning on spending a bit more time in the paddock on Sunday afternoon and meeting up then, but ended up retreating to the GRRC marquee to stay warm and dry when the rain hit! We should be at BTaP though!

Yes- the Lancaster didn't make it but up stepped Lee Proudfoot (quite possibly at very short notice) to fly a stunning display in very trying conditions in MH434.
Having watched Lee fly the Spitfire brilliantly for many years now- there is no doubt in my mind that the late and very great Ray Hanna would have been giving him a big thumbs up yesterday for what was, given the weather, one of his finest displays.

I remember Raymond Baxter interviewing Ray Hanna just after he purchased the aircraft. That would have been around 1982 or 1983.

Also Johnny Johnson was there for the Dambusters tribute, look him up if you don't know who he is. The air cadets did a great job and have worked very hard on their display.

The other pilots on the airfield thought that the MH434 display was very brave indeed, given the conditions. Actually brave wasn't the word they used, but I got the gist of it!

Even under Swire's ownership Ray Hanna was the regular pilot -I guess the connection was made at Cathay Pacific with RH flying the bosses "toy"
