Want to take lots and lots of action pics this year.
The mrs and I usually tend to hang around the pits straights, and this ok, but fancy maybe going a little further afield this year. Will have 300mm lens, so I do want to be too far away from the track. Anyone able to recommend locations?

The banking on the fist corner is a favourite for me.

It's steep enough to get some great shots while sitting and enjoying the races

Super shots available of cars coming towards you down the straight and then through turn one with no fences in the way.

I would suggest you wander round a bit or use the tractor. Good shots from the Shell building coming into Woodcote, as said from the banking at Mdgwick but try to get to Lavant for some cornering shots. Frankly anywhere around the track you can't go to far wrong.

St Marys. Cars right underneath you, bit of a hike but worth it.

Simon - can I ask, what kind of zoom did you need to get a shot like that from the public area? Going to be getting my first DSLR for Goodwood and am wondering if I need a 300mm lens or if I can make do with less?

almost certainly would need 300mm for that shot.. but good shots can also be had with wider angles.. try the wide pan technique! thumbup

Walk the whole track!
Go clockwise and the light will follow you perfectly.
I quite like the corner with no name as they aren't going too fast, great for panning, and you get good drifts.
I use 75-300mm lens.
You can email me for examples, I'm at Spa at the moment so only on iPhone.

a 70/300 lens was used, but i think it was considerably less than the three hundred to get that shot

Exit of Lavant on to the straight

Madgewick at dusk during the 9hrs tribute

Between St Mary's and Lavant

Anywhere around the circuit is great imvho. BUT remember the light changes throughout the day and is often the key consideration. Never used anything longer that 300mm, for much of my 35mm work I use a 210
