I'm heading to the FoS for the first time on Sunday. I've seen a few posts saying that traffic on the A27 is a nightmare so get there early, but what's the traffic like from the London direction (assume I'll be travelling down the A3 and then either A286 or A283). I guess another option for me is to come from the M23/Crawley direction. Any tips for avoiding traffic?

Also what are the arrival times to avoid?

And finally, will a later arrival mean I won't get a decent spot to view the action, or is it fairly easy to find a spot regardless?

Cheers,

Will

I take the A286 route, aim to get there before 9! and you shouldn't have many queues... but as always, earlier the better! (not any / many queues normally on that route at 8am normally)

Take the A3 until you reach the A2149 then head towards rowlands castle. When you come to two small roundabouts at Rowlands Castle head between the shell garage and Harvester restaurant. continue on over the humpback rail line and up steep hill with bend in the woods. take the next left which takes you parralel to the M27 but level with Goodwood then keep going on B2146 to Lavant. Goodwood is on the other side. Sounds hard but is only a few turns. Turn up early as possible to avoid traffic it will be a nightmare. I make this journey from bushey weekly it will take an hour three quarers on a normal day.
Simon going to the event by bike with 9 year old son.

Thanks for replies - managed to persuade the gf of the benefits of an early start so hopefully won't be too bad...

copy of thread....

Take the A3 until you reach Horndean the A2149 then head towards Rowlands Castle. When you come to two small roundabouts called _Whitchers Gate_ at Rowlands Castle take second exit , head between the shell garage and Harvester restaurant. Continue on over the humpback Bridge towards _Emsworth approach staggered junction take turning on left towards Aldsworth_. Go through Aldsworth village, then keep going through Funtington on B2146 to Chichester Then after Oakwood School on right at staggered x roads turn left into Hunters Race, go to end turn left to Lavant. Then turn right on small roundabout Pook lane. go over small bridge. Do not turn right no entry to FOS. However, you can go straight on to FOS No Stewards stopping you through east Lavant today (Friday) please Trust me I run a chauffeur business in Chichester. We work for Goodwood Ltd. If you carry on past Royal Oak pub along Pook Lane in East Lavant. follow road to the end..then turn right Go past Kennels Restaurant on left. Go past Gate 3.It will bring you shortly to the public car parking areas on the left after gate 3,4. Turn up early as possible to avoid traffic it will be a nightmare. This is a better way and more descriptive directions. Today I have never seen so many people and cars at the FOS. In all 20 years...woow ! At 2.00pm today (Friday) still people arriving and cueing to get into the parking areas from A27. Get there before 7am and you will not cue..OK be warned...I am not joking !!!!!

Big thanks to Si Geen and R80HSV, arrived at 8:30 on Saturday using the directions above, queued for around 20 minutes then straight in.
Left at 6-7ish queued for about 2 minutes and straight out, no more traffic. Perfection!

ssh don't tell anyone!

There's an even better way down the A24 and cross country!
