If You're Going to Goodwood
Discussion
Ladies and Gentlemen, I offer the following story from my local paper, last week’s Midhurst and Petworth Observer, without comment. It is referring to the Sunday of Soft Top Sunday.
Police tackle Breakfast Club speeding
Speeding motorists on their way to the Goodwood Breakfast Club were stopped by police at the weekend
Officers from the Midhurst and Petworth Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted motoring checks in Duncton on Sunday.
It was in response to complaints from residents and parish councils throughout the Midhurst and Petworth area regarding speeding motorists heading to the Breakfast Club at Goodwood.
PCSO Ian Luxford said after Sunday’s operation: “The Breakfast Club attracts a large number of vehicles through our area and, while the majority of people attending are respectful of the communities that they are passing through, there are a minority who do cause distress to the residents.
“At a recent neighbourhood panel meeting representatives gave Petworth Neighbourhood Policing Team the priority of vehicle offences on Sundays and in particular on days when the Breakfast Club is held.
“We will be conducting checks throughout the summer in various locations to educate motorists that their manner of driving is not acceptable and causes distress to the residents of villages that they are passing through.”
Checks were conducted over a course of two hours and during this time 18 vehicles were stopped.
One had an expired MoT, one had no seatbelt and 15 were stopped for excessive speed.
A motorcycle was also stopped by police for having an illegal rear number plate.
Ends
I saw the boys in blue in Duncton on the STS meet morning. They had the gun out trying to pick off people as they made their way to the event. They'd pulled over a Triumph Stag as we went past but didn't really look like there were many other people getting caught out to be honest.
As these events get more and more busy its only a matter of time before the locals start kicking up a fuss. I expect in their minds exhaust noise is a direct correlation to vehicle speed but in reality that's not normally the case

As long as you respect the villages and their respective speed limits, you will be fine.. Does anyone really need to go through a 30mph village at 40mph? I love in duncton and our driveway is situated just after a bend making it blind.. Cars coming round the bend at 40 stand a great chance of hitting us.. Cars at 30 don't. It's pretty simple really.
Regarding the earlier comments on noise, I know it's the noise that people mainly complain about but there's nothing plod can do about that so again, fancy exhaust or not.. If you drive slowly through the villages, you won't draw attention to yourselves and the police will look elsewhere..
Simples..

I was pootling back home in my Morgan behind a very conservatively (and well driven) GT3RS - up ahead we saw a red Boxter (might have been something else) overtake into the path of several cars. Really stupid driving.
Speed is good. Driving like a clown gives everyone a bad reputation - apart from risking the lives of innocents.
