Traffic chaos at goodwood
Discussion
Given up after 50 mins queuing. Waste of time. And a big problem for old cars. . No control. Couldn't get close enough but I suspect that the traffic approach is all wrong. Saw it last month. For goodness sake if this is the right diagnosis, force traffic around the roundabout so its a single lane approach not from two ways with one lane crossing the other.
I'm sure "vouchergate" will echo once people get back on here. Funny to see those without go to other car park.
Circuit was full by 8am and now chaos due to people still thinking they can get in. Need limits on voucher numbers and stopping people at the roundabout both ends. To enable free flow of traffic.
Was unprecedented numbers though, most I've seen outside of supercar Sunday.

Just got back home, left around 10am and the traffic to the south was still back to the roundabout after the A27.. There were several casualties quietly steaming away too... Took about 25mins to get in for 8am from the south... Being a solid roofed car, was sent to the field, which ironically, was as good as the main event. Just a thought, but maybe they could sub-divide the field, left for normal, right for 'interesting'.... On poorly/not interested themed events, I could just stay in the field, and save the walk.

Found out from someone who actually got in that ther was no problem coming in from the Chilgrove end and parking in the public car park. When you have a themed car it goes a bit against the grain parking there!
I know what you mean, it does take the shine off owning a nice car and then being turned away, but judging by some of the stunning cars in the field, the event is possibly missing a trick, because certain mainstream cars were highly prolific in the circuit, yet rare, and interesting cars were scattered all over the field... Funny old world.Arrived just after 7:00 (perk of being relatively local) and was directed straight to the paddock. By 8:00 it was busy and by 9:00 it was mental!
Left at 10:00 and it was still queuing most of the way back to the A27. Easy to blame the marshals but, to be fair, they are trying to cope with an incredible number of cars all going to the same place. I've never seen that many theme cars at an event, ever. Even Supercar Sunday doesn't generate those sorts of numbers. Spectators, yes, but not theme cars.
Interesting that, for reasons best known to themselves, the organisers seem to have abandoned the one way system that at least helped, if not solved, some of the chaos.

We got there at 9ish and parked in the field. Not really a queue, but some fantastic cars in scattered throughout.
Even the walk to the circuit had a huge number of great cars to see, so the little one was in his element.
The cars near the historic Tesco store were overflowing the parking but again, an astonishing range. One very striped TVR caught the urchin's eye. Owned by a PH'er from the sticker. You have a fan of that paint job.
For a free event it really is incredible and given the massive amount of people present the marshals did a pretty good job.
Getting there early for supercar Sunday would be advised.

Got there at 7 no queues and straight onto the pit straight. Left at 1045 and again no issues. Maybe we all need to spread the arrival time out a bit. We would all like to arrive at 9 am giving us a lie in. As the saying goest the early bird gets the worm!!!!!!
Some fantastic early Ferraris and Jaguars. Roll on June.

We arrived from the Lavant direction and turned right at the roundabout by the overflow field to head towards the entrance. There were themed cars coming towards us, and their drivers were saying that the circuit was full, so we continued as far as the entrance and swung in to turn round. As we did so, a marshal opened the gates and signalled that were more spaces available, so we drove straight in (lucky eh?).
However once in we found that, as I has suspected, it was far from full. The cars parked on the track extended to just past the chicane. Why couldn't they just let people keep streaming in so that they could progressively fill-up the track all along the Lavant Straight, as has been done many times in the past? Doing what they did today caused more chaos than it prevented IMO.
I suggest that for Supercar Sunday they allow two lanes into the main entrance at peak time (one from each direction), with the left lane routed up towards the cafe then onto the track opposite the pits to fill the the circuit in a clockwise direction, and the right lane routed towards the Tesco car park then onto the track opposite the chicane to fill the circuit in an anticlockwise direction.

I must have been one of the lucky ones!
I arrived at 8.45am, I did not sit in any queues in any direction, drove at normal speeds to the front gate, pulled in and parked in that left area on instruction. There was zero delay to any part of my journey there at all although there were queues coming away from the main entrance back towards the public car park.
