So been a member for a couple of years now, but its quite a way to Goodwood and still haven't managed to get there.

This year is to be different, I'm not only determined to get to the FOS, but I want also to spend a few days down on the south coast and use the facilities at Goodwood and enjoy a drink and bite to eat in the Kennels whilst there.

So, last night I'm having this absolute nightmare of a nightmare. A friend of mine turns up in the wrong attire. He is chased around the bar and thrown out of the joint. In this dream we are surrounded by very posh folk berating us for not wearing a jacket at all times......... It was bloody awful. Aslo everybody was driving in 1930s vintage motors, it was surreal.

So this wakes me, and all of a sudden I realise that I have no idea what the dress code at the Kennels is. So I have the following questions:

1, Whats the dress code?
2, Do I have to wear my membership badge to get in?
3, How many can I get in to the Kennels (or wherever) who are with me at the time.

Thanks in advance

1. Most seem to be casual / smart casual. Don't even think of wearing a football shirt. Possibly a little more formal in the dining room, but the bar and lounge area does super snacks/light meals. Even dog biscuits for your hound.
2. Yup, show your green membership card to the girls on the front desk when you arrive.
3. Not sure - ring and ask, they're very friendly.

Got to say, the staff at the Kennels, mostly girls and boys rather than women and men, are absolutely first rate. Cannot fault them.

Mark.

From an email to the club sometime ago:

"Regarding The Kennels, there is no limit to the number of people you can take there (to use the bar etc) but it's not possible to book a table in the restaurant for more than eight people. If you'd like to have a dinner with more people, you would need to get in touch with The Kennels directly to talk to them about hiring one of the private rooms. Just so you know, their number is XXXXX XXXXXX - you'd need to use that number to make a reservation too."

Thanks for the replies. Great news. Not to worry I'm not the football shirt wearing kind of guy.

Nice but informal sounds great. It seems as long as I'm carrying the card, I don't need to be wearing my badge then.

Coolio, see you all there maybe. thumbup

Spot on but always best to call and book a table in the restaurant well in advance as it can get very busy even on week days. The bar is quite small but you can "bag" a settee as you walk through to it if one is available. As mentioned above the staff are very good and you will be looked after as you would anticipate by the surroundings, the Goodwood real ale is rather nice as well biggrin

If you fancy somewhere to relax over an afternoon cup of tea/coffee the pop up the stairs and sit yourself down in the library, lovely quiet corner thumbup

Just out of curiosity and not wanting to start a "debate" but i do wonder how many others have Membership and "havent managed to get there for a couple of years".
Is it just a status thing to hold the GRRC badge? Surely a place here, and others, could be vacated for more, shall we say, enthusiastic applicants to fill.

just a thought, and applying helmet and flak jacket......now!!

Vaild question, no need for the flak jacket.

Reason for membership is nothing to do with status. I'm a big fan of all things motorsport ..... and cars. I work in wood and alot of my customers are also (classic) car nuts, I enjoy track days and all things fast. I had never heard of the club until a few years back and they suggested I joined, as much for the drive there as anything else. I also have a good friend who lives just outside Chichester so the Kennels would be a great place to meet for lunch.
Waited about 18 months to get into the club, and then the credit crunch hits me around 3 months after becoming a member.
Only now am I back on my feet enough to be able to afford the 240 mile round trip to Goodwood occasionally over the summer, and also enjoy some of the benefits of club membership.
Hopefully will be down for the FOS for the first time this year as well, which fingers crossed will become a yearly event for me. There will be me in my aircooled 911, an Alvis and a 375GTB, possibly a 993 cab as well.
Will also do the revival if funds allow.
