.....never even been to the FoS before but have just booked me and she for the full weekend, camping in the 'non electric' (clockwork? steam?) section. Has anybody camped here previously and, if so, any thoughts/advice?

Thanks.

Yes camped many times. Not much to say other than you'll love it. Showers and loos are ok and plentiful. Farm shop on site but sainsburys worth a trip on way in on main chichester road,( disposable BBQ's ideal for breakfasts ), Tractor/trailor combos ferry you in foc every day from pick-up point in neighbouring field and drop you . Check out the beer garden at the Goodwood Hotel after the Friday/Sat event as normally a decent band playing in the evening. All told I think camping on site is perfect way to experience the event. Enjoy

Does anyone know of anywhere local to the event that might provide a pitch just for Friday/Saturday night? The £155 for official camping seems a bit steep!

We camped last year. It was great. Showers and loos were decent for a campsite and the security were friendly. We were camped with Marshalls and exhibitors so people around us actually wanted to get some kip. As everyone is there for the same reason it's easy to get along with everyone around you.

Why not pitch up at The Royal Oak in Midhurst. 10 minutes from Goodwood with 20+ spaces WITHOUT electricity. Price of £35 per night includes our fantastic English breakfast.

The non electric camping means you'll get a big square of grass large enough for a Phaeton, a 3x3m Gazeebo and three "two" man tents.

Up and at the showers before 7am if you don't want to queue and normal camping requirements apply, lights particularly, unless you're near the toilet/shower blocks once the sun goes down its pitch dark.

Our pitch last year..

and the view from the "living room"....

First visit to the FoS for us and we will be camping Thurs to Sun.
Can anyone advise whereabouts the campite is in relation to everything that's going on...I've not seen it on any maps of the area. Is it far away?

Depends on which campsite; which last year depended on when you arrived. I think they have over allocated last year, and we found ourselves in the marshall/staff campsite. That meant there weren't enough facilities distributed about, but they did sort that out pretty quickly smile Experience of the camping has always been really positive, considering it is a campsite after all.

You will either be near enough the main gate to walk in, or up the hill which is a 15-20 minute (?) slow walk or a shuttle bus trip away. You could wait around a while to get the shuttle when everyone is trying to get in, but if walking is an option i'd go with that.

Thank you for the info. I didn't actually realise that there multiple campsites, or that we don't have allocated pitches...oh well!
