Saturday: Weather was superb, atmosphere great, the Air Displays were breath-taking. (Hairs on back of neck erect, tears in eyes)
The event should run for a week to let you take everything in!
Was a bit diddled as the lightweight Jags/Astons didn't race, just practiced.
Lavant is always my favourite vantage point, but today we headed back to the busier section for lunch. Who ever thought placing flags in front of the big screen was a good idea!!!
The races were a bit more gentle than in certain previous years, but hey that's motor sport.
Overall: great day out, I could easily spend all day just in the car park!

Not perfect for Andy Newell in the Fordwater Trophy, driving the 1965 Ginetta G10 (this is the same car that had won first time out at Brands all those years ago, beating the Protheroe Lightweight E-type driven by R Gordon -albeit soft top then.
Newell led at Goodwood from the off, and all the race very easily from the 26R Loti etc, until just minutes from the end this happened to the rear wheel.
So no, not perfect day for him!

Can't understand why he was not Black Flagged.......that could have come off on another part of the track, he must have done at least three laps with the wheel bearing failing.
indeed... he went past on one lap with it 1/2 off, i expected him to pit.. but the photo above is what i saw on the next lap! Sarge 4x4 said:

I think he may have only gone down the pit straight once when it was loose, but to be honest there's little point of a black flag in this case as it was bound to fail very quickly and he'd have three laps to obey the black flag. It's down to the driver to make the decision, and he didn't make the right one (and was very lucky not to hurt anyone)..2 sMoKiN bArReLs said:

I was in the pits and am sure he passed three times in trouble.

Car 82 was at speed on lap 15, slow lap 16 and didn't come round on lap 17. But that still doesn't make it right!
Give Andy Newell the benefit of doubt, until you hear his version of events.
He's a great driver. In a bloody great car!
Here he is last year in Australia when he got caught up in a real accident.
A Porsche 911 in terrible roll... Andy's G10 avoids and goes on the gravel.

Watch the G10 in the video at around 30 secs in and guess which driver leaves his car (38secs in)and runs to see if the Porsche driver is ok?

Here is the G10 (with soft top) in 1965 on its debut at Brands. Chasing the ex-Protheroe Lightweight.
G10 won ...easily.

That's pretty hard to do given the distance he drove with something so obviously wrong. He was a potential serious menace to other drivers, the public & especially the marshalls. (as was the Cobra that didn't come in with swinging exhaust!)2 sMoKiN bArReLs said:

(as was the Cobra that didn't come in with swinging exhaust!)How much did Andy know? That is one hell of a car... perhaps he didn't know how serious it was? Autosport says when the car came to a halt, Andy fell into the rapeseed grass (or whatever it is out there) and 'cried his eyes out'!
If you're wondering why my interest, it's the car not the driver.
In my garage...

I can see where you're coming from, but re the Marshalls, as said, why on earth didn't they black flag him?

See my posts above. He came past the pits only once when the car was broken, so no real chance to black flag him and it was pretty clear he wasn't going to slow down so near the end in any case. He wanted to get to the chequered, that's pretty clear. I can totally understand the passion at the event, but Goodwood is dangerous enough without wheels flying about! But the car was excellent and hope he brings it back next time. How much did Andy know? That is one hell of a car... perhaps he didn't know how serious it was?
