There's a tractor-shuttle that is constantly running upto the top of the rally stage and back all day every day. You will find the pick up point near the Pheasantry grandstand.

Rally paddock is a waste of time IMO. Just walk a small way into the forest and stand by the track if you are keen to watch.

IMO the rally stage is one of the best parts of FOS - they really go for it up there!

I really enjoyed the paddock area, lots of interesting characters willing to talk and let you look in their cars. A little stroll from there into the woods to watch the action just adds to the experience.

I saw loads of people with dust coated faces though where the dust kicked up had stuck to their suncream biggrin - Can't see that being a problem this year though....

Thats why its so good! no crowds, the rally stage is a must go see... there are some good viewing spots on the infield section!

Think you are misunderstanding what I am saying. I basically mean the paddock is a lot longer walk than you think and the paddock itself is a bit rubbish. Nothing happening. But just as you walk into the forest there are some good corners to plant yourself on to watch the action and save the hassle of tripping over tree stumps (you know the ones hehe) anyway I know for the rally fans it is great but for a one day festival visit you will miss out on a lot by going there. smile

Was a bit dusty on the tractor on the way up last year but definately saves the walk!
If you are a rally fan I would say it's worth a look.

A highlight for me was chatting away to veteran mini pilot Rauno Aaltonen for around 20 minutes. What a nice guy! Try that in the F1 paddock.

You don't need a long lens up there either - this is on a 200mm.

18-55 will be fine - at some points the cars are just feet from you, ideal for close up panning shots.

Other place for some good shots with a short lens is right down at the east gate where the cars turn to come up to the startline for the hill climb.

if you walk the rally stage you do sometimes have quite a wait at crossing points

Last year you could walk between the start and the finish sections to get into the infield without waiting for the crossing... hope its the same this year!
