World champion Sebastian Vettel will star at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Red Bull Racing driver will make his first appearance at the annual motorsport extravaganza, along with team-mate Mark Webber and McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
Vettel's appearance was announced by Goodwood owner Lord March during a press conference at the West Sussex stately home this morning. The German, who will start his quest for a third world title on the trot in Australia on Sunday, fits in with the 'Young Guns' theme of this year's Festival.
Webber will also drive the Infiniti Emerg-e range extender sportscar, which will be having its first public appearance on the move. Seven of the 12 current F1 squads have committed to the June 28th event,
which will also include a major tribute to the Lotus marque, celebrating 60 years since its first car was produced. The central sculpture outside Goodwood House will be Lotus-focused, and about 40 examples of the Norfolk manufacturer will be in action.
The Moving Motor Show element of the Festival also continues to flourish, with over 22 car manufacturers already signed up on the Thursday of the event.
There will be a strong focus on two-stroke motorcycles, celebrations of 50 years of Brabham, 30 years of Group C sports car racing and The Queen's car collection.
At today's announcement Lord March also revealed details of the Goodwood Revival historic race meeting that will take place in September. Among the highlights of that event will be a celebration of 50 years of AC Cobra, which will be commemorated with a special race.
Plans are also afoot to recreate the spirit of the fight between Auto Union and Mercedes in the 1937 British Grand Prix at Donington Park with up to 10 examples of the famous Silver Arrows machinery. It will be the first time the rival German cars will have been on track since the late 1930s. The driver homage at this year's Revival will be to American Dan Gurney, who will be reunited with many of his old racing cars.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee forms the inspiration for a spectacular gathering of vehicles at this summer's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The event's Cartier Style et Luxe concours d'elegance display will this year be focused on vehicles that have been personally owned or used by the Queen in a collection that has never before been seen together in public.
Vehicles are being sourced not only from the Queen's personal collections at Sandringham and the Royal Mews, but also from overseas governments and private collections.
They will be divided into six classes: Limousines, official Overseas State Visit travel, Working Cars, Personal Family Cars, Aviation, Rail and Horse-drawn vehicles, and Royal Household Toy Cars.
The display will include the Queen's 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V and 1929 Daimler Double Six 30hp Brougham, as well as a Chapron-bodied Citroën SM Decapotable used by the Queen during a State visit to France in 1972 and, at the other end of the scale, a 1961 Vauxhall Cresta Friary Estate used to transport the Queen's corgi dogs.
A 1920s Royal Midland carriage from The Royal Train and a 1950s De Havilland Chipmunk aircraft will also be on display, and like everything else will come under the scrutiny of a panel of expert judges who have the job of choosing which vehicle best demonstrates the art of automotive design.
To fill the whole Concours up with that is a silly idea, the Cartier's usually one of my favourite things every year at the FoS.The event's Cartier Style et Luxe concours d'elegance display will this year be focused on vehicles that have been personally owned or used by the Queen in a collection that has never before been seen together in public.

Well, the Cartier is also one of my highlights but I think this will be different and interesting. It will probably be very well done as well. Having been since the first one I've become selective now and will only attend if there is something meaningfully different - I'll now be buying a ticket. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/goodwood-festi...

We were there running the RAF ops room in the egyptian drawing room. I got a run up the hill in Rae Davis' A35 with the man himself at the wheel. Great fun, especially as I'd really enjoyed seeing it run at Revival. I also got to sit in a Brooklands Bentley Blower for a photo op, it pays to dress as a WAAF!
Fantastic day with the great and the good in LM's back garden.

Alain Prost heads to the Goodwood Festival of Speed
One of motorsport’s greatest living legends, Alain Prost, will join current Formula One stars Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button at this year’s Festival of Speed, which takes place from June 28 to July 1. Like current F1 champion Sebastian Vettel, it will be Prost’s first appearance at the festival, which is partnered by The Daily Telegraph, meaning that only one F1 world champion, Michael Schumacher, will not have attended the event.
The four-times world champion, recently portrayed in a somewhat controversial light as Ayrton Senna’s nemesis in the film Senna, will be in attendance on the Friday and Saturday of the festival, while his diary commitments for Sunday are yet to be confirmed.
He will drive twice up the hillclimb formed by Lord March’s drive each day, and is expected to recreate a bit of history by getting behind the wheel of the Renault RE30, the F1 car in which he won his first grand prix, fittingly the French Grand Prix, in 1981.
He will also drive his 2012 Dacia Lodgy Andros Trophy ice racer, which is a 355bhp MPV prepared by Renault Sport Technologies. Prost won the Andros Trophy, a French ice-racing series (the second team car was piloted by his son, Nicolas) at the start of this year in the Dacia.
To celebrate the presence of Prost at Goodwood, there will be an extensive photographic exhibition staged in association with Tag Heuer, for whom Prost is brand ambassador, in the estate’s Stable Yard by the main house. The photos will capture his racing career, from his early years in karting, his 51 victories, 33 pole positions and 106 podiums, to his four F1 championships.
Prost, whose intellectual approach to racing earned him the “Professor” soubriquet, will curate the 100 or so images, selecting photographs from photo agencies and his private collection, including many never seen before in public.
Fans keen to meet the great man face to face should head to the Stable Yard, where he will appear each day. The area will also host eight cars that have played a significant part in Prost’s racing career.
If you can’t bear to peel yourself away from the hillclimb, a live interview with Prost will be broadcacst on giant screens around the track during the festival.

Takes me back to the heady days of F1 when you could wander around the paddock at Silverstone & see the cars just parked up where ever there was some space.
Cant wait for this years FoS. Surely the best motorsport event anywhere these days.
