As Revival and Festival fade into memory I thought about whats going to be featured at next years Goodwood spectaculars. So its time to get your thinking caps on (or just google things) an see if we can pre-empt what might feature as next years 'celebrations'. I'll start of with a few anniversaries in 2012 -
25 years ago - Ferrari F40
50 years ago - Ferrari 250 GTO, MGB Roadster, Honda motor company
75 years ago - Brian Redman, Richard Petty, Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Bruce McLaren born

Given Honda's major involvement over the years expect major Honda display at Festival and big McLaren parade at Revival (well at least that's my guess)
So any more anniversaries to celebrate that you know of?

Big Honda display has already been done at the Festival, so they'd have to be the first repeat. Mclaren parade at the Revival definitely plus 70 years of the Lanc. (give his Lordship a chance -as if he needed an excuse -for more addressing the great unwashed)

I'm guessing there might be a few people who've forgotten that the Cobra's celebrating it's 50th birthday next year too. UMMMM???

So some are then scratchchin

A few other notable 2012 anniversaries;

100th anniv of formation of Royal Flying Corps.

75th anniv of birth of Roger Penske.

60th anniv of QE II ascension to throne.

50th anniv of Graham Hill's 1st F1 championship, also BRM's only drivers and constructors championships, Rolling Stones debut show, 1st Beatles single released and Britain & France agree to build Concorde.

I'd have thought 50 Years of the 250 GTO will be celebrated as well as 50 years of Honda.

I'm not sure who the main manufacturer will be though scratchchin.

The theme should be announced shortly.

Although I'd have thought the main thing would be 20 years of the Festival of Speed.

50 years of the GTO - I wouldn't put it past LM and his team to get all of them there...

Don't think Honda would have the main display at Festival as mentioned they have done it already, but a big display of bikes and cars is a possibility. Queens 60th jubilee - how about a display of royal carriages by Gerry Judah? I think the Cobra 289 was released in 61, whilst the 427 came out in 65. Of course the other one I forgot was Moss' career ending crash at the circuit in Easter 1962. I would love to see a GTO celebration and sight and sound of 36 250GTO's and 3 330GTO's would be amazing. Given that LM managed five of the six Bugatti Royale's a few years ago I would guess that getting together at least half should be possible. Fingers crossed.

I have always wondered what the timescales for the planning for FOS are like, for instance, are a lot of the exhibits already booked, and if not, how late are they booked?
