For those coming to the Revival from anywhere North of Milford (i.e. all M25 and A3 drivers)......

There's a barn having it's roof repaired in Witley and, naturally, they've chosen the Revival weekend to do this work and put up temporary traffic lights. Traffic is complete chaos now - and it's a Tuesday morning with nothing going on.

This is on the A283 at Witley.

May I suggest that you ignore the directional signage and take the A286 (not the A283) from Milford and then, if you wish, cut back through to the A285 at Brook (the next left after the Dog & Pheasant at Brook will take you back).

You might just avoid a massive queue.

If, by some miracle the scaffolding comes down (it went up today), I'll post it up here.

No worries - remember it on the way back too...... Turn left immediately before King Edwards School at Witley (the turn right after the railway station turning) and get on the Brook road to the A285.

The queues through Witley today rival the normal stuff going into Petworth - so it could be a double whammy for unsuspecting Revival visitors.

Also beware of gas main replacement in Midhurst, started 5 September and is expected to last for 4 months.
At the moment only 1 cut through road is affected, this being Knockhundred Road (past the Spread Eagle Hotel).
I know that a lot of people us this as a short cut, so be warned.

Good information NDA and pipes.

Having come down the A3 and then A286 on Monday, I think they are recommending most people use the A3 - now through the new Hindhead tunnel - and I guess get off at Petersfield, head for Harting, up the old Harting Hill hillclimb, past the old White Horse at Chilgrove (now a smart fish restaurant) to Lavant. Not sure what happens then but a lovely road through the Downs, and quite quick.

I came down the A286 and thankfully the roadworks had gone near Haslemere, but they are recommending that road as a coach route, so it might be slow, especially through Haslemere and Midhurst.

As pipes says, there are roadworks in the cut-through past Mike Hawthorn's old drinking hole at the Spread Eagle in Midhurst, and this is therefore closed northbound. People who have taken this road and then used the southbound part to go north have not surprisingly angered the local constabulary, so they might be out to catch people.

Of course, they should be easing the flow at the mini-roundabout and the pedestrian traffic lights in town which unfortunately is why there are blockages into Midhurst post-event. I have pointed this out to Goodwood and it would be nice if the police would do something about it. Until they do, apologies, we don't want our towns to become known purely because they are bottlenecks!

Finally, heading south at the beginning of the day, beware the speed checks after Haslemere down the hill into Fernhurst (been there for years) and out of Petworth, a speed check mentioned elsewhere on this forum.

Scaffolding and temporary lights still up today on the A283 at Witley..... 2 miles of traffic on a quiet Wednesday.

Do give Witley a miss for the Revival, I cannot see anything but chaos for those going and those returning.

I would use the A286 and then back to the A283 at Brook, through Petworth (always busy, but it moves eventually) and on that way. Just cut out Witley by ignoring the signage at Milford.

All good info on route problems, keep them coming please. At the moment my route is unaffected and clear, because I`d like to keep it that way I`m not telling which roads I use, just in case they are suddenly besieged hehe

Guys,

I'm coming over for the Revival from Brussels tonight - arriving Folkestone at 19.00 and then heading for a hotel in Portsmouth. My Navi says M25/ A3. Should I follow it or would it be better to take the longer M3 route? I guess I'll be on the A3 at about 21.00, so no problem, right?

You should have absolutely no trouble going down the A3 from the M25 to Portsmouth. Don't bother about the M3. The Hindhead traffic lights, which used to blight the A3, have been bypassed/underpassed by a tunnel and you won't even know traffic problems ever existed.
I would be wary of going from Portsmouth to Goodwood however. The Chichester bypass (A27) can get clogged at the best of times and I understand it can get pretty bad at Revival time. I never come in that way for the Revival and rarely even go that way, so I don't know a better route. Maybe someone else can advise.

The A27 is generally not too bad in the morning if you are reasonably early, though most non revival days there is always a queue as you approach Chichester from Portsmouth at the first roundabout by Tescos. It does move fairly well for a queue. I only see it at about 8.00 - 8.30 am whilst I go the other way so can't comment on later.

I'm writing this from the giant traffic jam that has been created by having all traffic go past the horse racing track. Not sure why this new route in has been chosen - I've been here for a long while. If you find another way in - use it!

Does this mean all traffic, or all traffic from the north?

Yes, but we dont' know that he set off to the north, he could have come from the east, or someone else might know the answer smile

Finally home..... Great day - apart from the traffic chaos when coming from the North......

It took me one and a half hours from the Goodwood horse racing track!! Unbelievably badly thought out this year.

I'm there again over the weekend and I would suggest (when coming from the Petworth direction) that you ignore the 'all Revival traffic' sign that takes you past the horse racing track and, instead, drive straight on and take the right hand turn further along, which is 'New Road' and enter the circuit parking that way.

Hope this helps someone and might save them hours of gridlock.

Grrrrrr!

Road was closed due to a Fatal Road Traffic Collision... Guess the traffic conditions will be better over the weekend.
