Looking to go down on one of the two days and wondered what, if anything, is different about the Friday to the Saturday?

I was expecting Friday to be qualifying, but the calendars show testing as Wed/Thurs and have also contacted the club, who said that nothing was confirmed yet, which is something of a surprise!

Any advice please on what normally goes on when?

Friday is just practice whereas they race on Saturday & Sunday. Went for the first time last year and chose Friday. Would go on Saturday or Sunday if I go again.

Also, be sure to dress up - we didn't and stuck out like sore thumbs.

Friday traditionally is qualifying for all races. Saturday is then racing, except a session for the RAC TT Celebration race.

Thanks for the responses. As I imagined, qualiying on the Friday and racing Saturday. Saturday is probably a lot busier and there is an auction on the Friday to consider.

Can you buy tickets on the gate or is it totally in advance please?

On Friday you'll get to see all the cars running on track (as all qualifying happens), and it'll be quieter on the banks.

There are no test days immediately before the event.

Sorry.. I thought you meant the days immediately before.. Testing on the weds and thurs the week before is open to the public but please bear in mind that the whole site is pretty much a building site so it's best to park in one of the fields over the road and walk in.
Cheers,
J

Personally, I think Friday is an absolute gem of a day. Yes- there is racing on the Saturday but Friday is far less busy, it's possible to wander around without then worrying that you will lose a good spot to view the cars on track- there is always plenty of room.

Furthermore, as has already been mentioned in this thread, qualifying takes place for all the race categories (there is additional qualifying for the RAC TT Celebration on Saturday lunchtime) so you really can pick and choose what you want to see going around the track and then take time to visit other attactions within the circuit when you aren't watching the track action. Whilst the cars aren't racing- they certainly don't slouch around on the Friday- qualifying is a very serious business! I think it's a great day.

When it says costumes, what does this entail? Id like to go along but the idea of dressing up is kind of off putting

Most people just dress smart with a 60s look. You can wear whatever you like, but if you arrive in modern F1 reglia then you'll look very out of place.

Friday is quieter, but as well as Racing Saturday is ladies day, hence lots of period fashion particularly good if youre taking the other half. And thats not to mention the flying displays.

Hoping the Vulcan returns this year.

But do make an effort to dress in period, if you dont youll feel like a spare wotsit, and it neednt be a big effort. A pair of flannel trousers and a tweed jacket will do. We go as a team in mechanics overalls and the other half picked up a circle skirt off the internet for sweeties. Period dress is mandatory for paddock access if you fork out for tickets for that. Ive seen celebs turned away for not being in period. Paddocks money well spent as you get close up to the cars and drivers. Everyone is really friendly.

Goodwood Revival is the bestest event ever anywhere bar none.

thanks Peter. I have been to the Saturday before and did make an effort - adds to the day.

Do people make an effort on the Friday or just the Saturday please?

Yes they do. But the auction is outwith the ticketed area, so as youre in South London why not head down for the auction in the evening, you just need to buy an auction catalogue to get in. Also unless youre in acquisition mode access to the viewing is free on Saturday and Sunday (or at least we manage to blag our way in).

Coming from North Scotland we fly down Friday morning attend all three days and then visit a place of interest on Monday before we fly home. Been doing it for years and still find something new at Goodwood every year.

Dont think Ill ever tire of this event.

Likewise been doing all three days for years. What suggestions do you have for places of interest? It always annoys me that Arundle Castle is closed on Mondays. frown
