Spotted a sneaky scamera van this morning before the 30mph limit ends south of Petworth. It was parked on the left of the road with its back parked tightly up against a wall so that you could only see the side of the van when you were almost upon it.
I've always got my eyes peeled when going to the FoS so spotted it, but you could easily not notice the sneaky sods.

I went through Petworth at 6am very gingerly for this reason. In fact I stuck to the limits all the way down the A287? or whatever it is called. The locals did not appreciate this on their way to work/get the morning paper, and overtook me and continued at 45mph in a 30. Ok it was early, but plod can get up early too!

I got done last year, 6mph over the limit from memory. Exactly this spot.

It's an easy hit for them - everyone going to the FoS will be taxed, MOT'd, insured, live where they say they live etc. Far easier than going after criminals, looks good on the statistics for their crimes solved numbers.

I am not saying that I agree with scamera vans all the time. But this event does attract a lot of people who like to drive quickly and the Petworth road is one of the most dangerous in the county so I don't think it is a bad idea for the police to put a little bit of a deterrent on that road for that event.

It wasn't deterrence though, the scamera van was hidden in a 30mph zone covering a straight road a few hundred yards to a NSL zone, more like entrapment

It is always placed there and well documented, between 2 mini roundabouts and in the entrance to a fire station - if you desperately want to blat for all of a couple of hundred yards and potentially get collected by a fire engine instead of waiting until the second roundabout and the NSL then I doubt you'll get much sympathy here!

Entrapment would be if they'd removed the 30 mph signs. As for a deterrent, I bet you remeember to slow down next year.

I'm not pro scameras just seen this type of thread year on year for every Goodwood event including breakfast clubs. As an ex racer I'd have thought you'd know about the time and place for speed??

They've been hiding there for years, like I said I keep my eyes peeled as there are often scamera vans out on FoS weekend. Not that I'm in the habit of blatting through 30mph zones anyway.

I'm glad to see that the Sussex Scamera Partnership weren't at the Festival this year and the Police had a stand promoting motor bike safety and ridng standards.

Even The Cricketers pub in Duncton seem to be advertising for custom from the FoS, I've boycotted it since they had "Our village is not a Festival of Speed" written on a board outside

Sigh.

I only posted because it would be very easy to get a ticket from a hidden camera van and wanted to warn others.

I absolutely agree but that would be a very silly place to take such a risk surely and so wouldn't a ticket be justified - 30mph, 2 mini roundabouts, fire station and residential ........ how many more clues do people need??

In all my years of using that road; that mobile camera is the only camera for that road, and it only makes an appearance for the FoS and Revival.

Rightly so, that event attracts a lot of bell end drivers.

So because you are taxed, tested and insured you can break the speed limit? on the way out of a built up area…. OK hmm interesting.scratchchin
The 30 mph limit is not for long probably 500 metres or so then you can open it up on the straight so whats the deal ? There is also a School just of the roundabout and a fire station so that might be why it is 30 mph
I believe it has ANPR as well so will pick up uninsured drivers as well.
