4 cyl esprit service schedule
Discussion
Been thinking about my next car. Had a look at the service schedule on the 4 cyl esprit. It seems that a major service ('C' service) is every 6 services - based on one service every 6 months this would mean a 'c' service every 3 years.
The Lotus esprit world website suggests that "no-one services their cars every 6 months".
Based on this (and the fact that i would probably only do about 2k per year) - how often is a 'C' service reccomended??
Also is a cambelt change included in a C service and if not how often would this need doing?
Many Thanks

From Lotus:
Lotus have run many engines with the HTD Belt to 100,000 miles on the same belt. This was done in controlled conditions (on the road) where the belt tension was monitored regularly. All Lotus testing is done with calibrated test gear and trained technicians.
Lotus know from experience that many service tools never have a regular check for accuracy and are often not used correctly. Based on this many engines are running with incorrect belt tension. If the belt is changed every 24,000 miles this is not a significant problem. To cater for any circumstances where the engine could have been running with incorrect tension the 24,000 belt life is considered suitable.

When I bought my Esprit I am pretty sure that the cambelt had not been changed for 7½ years. This was despite a receipt and service stamp from a reputable Lotus specialist which clearly stated that the belt had been replaced 18 months earlier.
When the old one came off the rubber was cracking and it was visibly fraying between the teeth.
These days there aren't many Esprits that are going to need a belt changing on mileage. The real question is how long you can leave it between changes.
The answer to that question depends upon whether you can confidently say when the belt was last changed. If you have recently bought the car, I would work on the assumption that the belt needs changing immediately.
My current belt has done 4000 miles and has been on for 4 years. It is being changed at the next service and I am pretty sure I wouldn't want it to be left any longer.
