I am considering looking for a good late esprit - can anyone advise which model is the ONE to go for.... I am thinking V8 - are these reliable (on the whole). I believe esprit prices will rocket in the next 20 years (?)
thanks

Best ones are the limited build versions. S4S, Sport300 or Sport350. Early V8's had engine issues. I've had mine for 9 years and its never been a problem. Reliability increased markedly during the 90's so anything from then on is the go.

Absolutely right in terms of future values I reckon.
To quote a magazine article some months ago 'the Esprit V8 is destined for future greatness'

Only just over 10500 esprits were built in total and less than 1500 V8's of all types were built.America was a largish market for esprits in any event so home market cars aren't in great supply.

As a 1999 V8GT owner I am of course totally biased, but even if the potential increase values turns out to be wrong, just get a V8 or S4 or S4S at 3000 revs and put your right foot down and you will not care anyway. Other cars do that of course but then creep into the garage at night and look at the lotus and tell me the world is not a better place for it!!!!!

Make sure you look at LEF for all the info you need on the particular models. Very helpfull indeed.

Good luck

I hope so. I am looking forward to people asking me if I want to sell and offering silly money only for me to say... Nah! Love it too much and scream off!
silly

My V8 puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I've never driven a 4 cylinder car but those I know that have love the instant power of the V8s. Still, the 4 cylinder cars are amazingly fast. It's great to know that they will increase in value but I plan on driving mine until the doors fall off.

By all accounts, the SE is the one to watch, especially black ones. I'll do you a favour and let you have mine for £25k biggrin

Almost all Esprits are reliable if they're used. Garage queens struggle more than driven cars.

Don't know about prices rocketing, but I doubt you will loose much if anything. I bought mine (2.2 N/A) 10 years ago and would expect to get my money back on what I paid for it then.

In those 10 years I've had no major problems, only issues have been with brakes locking up when it's been sat in the garage for long periods, so if you get one, drive it and enjoy it. smile
