My old Esprit..
Discussion
Beautiful car, vividly remember seeing one when they were just out, in that colour, parked in a bus-stop outside Cranleigh near Guildford.
It looked incredible, definitely influenced me when I bought an S3 in the same colour some 10 years later.
Have come very close to selling it more than once over the last 10 years, very glad I didn't.

.. wish I'd kept it..
Thats the reason i never want to sell mine, had it 8 years now & although ive now got a 5 mth old boy so the Esprit doesnt come out much i know i'll regret selling it the minute I see it drive away. It still gives me a buzz when I open the garage door..good excuse for a pic:LOL, same problem here! Also not interested in selling mine either, even though I haven't driven it since Julys trip to the factory.
Have had mine for about 6-7 years and It still feels like I am only really looking after it for a bit. It's just so damn beautiful, no matter what is just about to break next-
must fix the header tank thats a sieve.

And you shouldn't!
I was in the drawing office as an apprentice when this was being designed, I drew the stickers (note drew, not designed!) and released the wheels.
I will own one, one day!
Stunning car
Cheers. Took me a while to adapt to the stickers and the rear wing but after a while it becomes the car, and I can't imagine it without these features. Even went and put the blue decals on the intake manifolds and front. Very interesting that you drew the stickers. If you ever come to New Zealand drop me a line and we'll go for a ride.I was in the drawing office as an apprentice when this was being designed, I drew the stickers (note drew, not designed!) and released the wheels.

Really? Thats awesome to know! You did a great job, the stickers make it boldly stick from the rest of the bunch (pun not intended!). The cream of the crop of Esprits for sure. I am going to get another 350 after new family commitments settle down. Theres nothing in its range compares.

So are there 2 S350's in New Zealand? I know Kylie had one that was imported from the UK, I remember reading about it on LEF, are we talking about the same car or is there 2?
There are two 350's. My old one in Auckland and Mikes in Dunedun....... I am planning on assassinating Mike, but will get him to redo his will first to ensure I am in there to get the car.

Thanks, that would be ace! I've never actuallly been in an Esprit of any shape. I started my apprenticeship not long before the Esprit ended production, but one of my very first 'posts' was in the product design office, just as the Sport 350 was being developed.I was given the task of drawing the stickers, which in those days (would've been around 1998-99'ish?) involved a huge layout table, film and french curves! CAD was being used by then, but as a bumblin' apprentice I wasn't allowed anywhere near them except on one occasion where I was asked to draw the carbon fibre 'look' effect on the dash panel in the S1 111-S Elise. I guess I was lucky that I also caught the very last of the proper, old draughtsmen who I used to just sit and watch. It was amazing to see them working; proper artists who always seemed pleased that a young fella was taking an interest in what they were doing rather than chomping at the bit to use CAD!
I have several other (fond) memories of other Esprits (and Elises) that I won't go into as I'm not sure how common knowledge they are, and I'm pleased to say that I'm back at Lotus so wouldn't want to risk a bking
Enjoy the motor, I'm proud to be able to say I had a little involvment in such a stunning car

It's great to hear from people that had a hand in this amazing car. Thanks for telling us about it!The story that has been told on this thread about people buying back their old Esprits is just great. I've heard it many times, and I never tire of hearing of it. I wonder if this is true of other marques?
