Odd Heat?

In my 2000 GTV8 I'm getting some heat from the center console at the level of the gear lever tray. If you reach down the console there's a gap between the console and the carpeting. Heat is coming mainly from the right side, but also from the left. The gear lever tray feels warmer than it should be. Temp on dial is fine, and fans kick in when they are supposed to. Any ideas what may be going on? Thanks.

Perfectly normal, but if you feel it's excessive then it might be worth checking to see if the rubber gaiter (underneath the cosmetic one) has split.

Thanks. It is excessive, but I will be replacing the gear knob soon, and since that's a stick out procedure, I'll check rubber gaiter as well as the cover plate for the gearchange mechanism (no longer available I'm told!). I was just wondering whether a heat shield was missing, but from the manual I can't see any around that area. Thanks again.

Try shifting outa second gear mike Kidding! Be interesting to see if the gaitor is split, I remember I had this problem on my old 89 Turbo but I had other issues with the gear mech as well.

The last time I took it out of second I lost my license for 3 months!
