My left cat in my 2000 V8GT has collapsed and I'm considering removing both cats. My concern is the O2 sensors and whether cat removal will trigger the warning light, or worse yet, cause the ECU to go limp. For those who have done this, any warning lights come one after cat removal? Also, any rec on whether to gut existing cats or just cut out cats altogether and weld in a new pipe and cut new holes for the O2 sensors. (Also, for what it is worth, the ECU has been flashed to Sport 350 spec). Thanks.

and while I'm rambling...is the second O2 sensor really a post-cat sensor because it seems to be situated before the main converter (but admitedly after the starter converter)? thanks again.

UK cars only require the post cat sensor to run, however, they still need to see the pre-cat sensor but it's ignored. The Federal cars need the cats, otherwise they'll throw a CEL but you can use hiflow cats instead.
I ran a V8GT without cats but all four sensors for two years(25k miles) without issue. I had the cat rep-pipes made up with the threaded sensor holes in the same place as they are on the OE pipes.

Hi Mike,

If you get stuck, I can supply a pair of bypass pipes in stainless steel with all the bosses in the right place. I may even be able to supply two plugs incase you only want to run two sensors.
I think they are about £150 for a pair off the top of my head.
I also do sports cats but these aren't cheap. Saying that they are 200 cell and less than half the price of Lotus and look 10 times better!
These are £850 for a pair.

Regards,

David Walters

Thanks GKP. Yeah it's a UK car. I think I'll just take the cats out. Hi David. I think I will get those bypass pipes from you as well as a few other things off the espritperformance site. I'll drop you an email. Thanks. Mike
