Which helmet for track days?
Discussion
Hi all,
I plan to buy an helmet for some track days. What is the best choice because I am 1.87 cm? Hopefully, my esprit does have the glass sunroof and I spare so a few cm. But I am still with my head against the roof when it is closed. For sure I plan to keep the roof open when wearing the helmet. Do you know some thinner and as safe as other?
Thanks
Ben

First you need to see what safety rating the sanctioning group over the track event requires. Probably "M95 DOT" for a helmet (I think that is right - but I'm no expert).
Also you might see if they will let you run with the sunroof open.
Unfortunately I don't think helmets are measured the way you are looking for. Another option is to swap in a racing seat at the track (or day before).

Sounds like you're looking for one of the newer "composite" helmets (like used in F1). I asked this question not too long ago on the Esprit list and a few of the racing types on the list admonished me to make sure it was SA2000 rated... (Comes down to this; If you have a $ 10 head, buy a $ 10 helmet...)
There is a really good article in this month's F1 Racing magazine on helmets, helmet ratings and differences between auto and moto helmets...
...now if I could just figure out some suitable *cool* Esprit graphics for a helmet, I could go buy one, hmmmm....
Good Luck

PS: Most tracks will NOT let you run with your roof out. In fact, most will require you to put the regular roof panel in for safety's sake...
