The S3, the early S3's all have 160hp engines
Theres a rare version that uses the HC engine, which has around 170hp, these were the last of the wedges
Then theres the restyled stevens car, this one is also quite rare as most people got the Turbo, it's got around 180hp and i would guess being the lastest car is the most reliable, but i prefer the wedge shape personally

I have a 1987 Esprit S3 HC which I've owned since 1993. I love it, and use it daily in the summer.
It still beings a smile when I drive, and I've owned a load of sports cars since Ferrari 355, 308, 328, Dino, TVR Griffith and Chimaera, Lotus Elise, Merc SL55AMG. I actually sold the SL last year to ensure the Espit got more use. I also use club cars, including a Ferrari California, 430 Spider, Porsche GT2, Aston Vantage GT4 and Ford GT. Oh yes Audi R8 but that was cr@p.
The old Esprit still stacks up against all of the above. Get a good one and you won't regret it.
