Short out A + B on the ADLA plug and count how many flashes you get from the check engine light.

I have found that not even Freescan can tell if the ECM is bad. When I first got my '89 non-SE the radiator fans would come on as soon as the ignition was on. I always had a Code 26 that the dealer could not determine, probably the canister relay. Then several years later the fuel pump relay would not engage, so I jumpered it out for another year. Finally the car would not run well and acted as if the timing was all off. I changed the flywheel sensor and ignition modular but no luck. Finally, I found the ECM as determined by Tonylotus, was only $90 so I changed it out, about 15 minutes, And the fans worked correctly, the pump relay was reinstalled and the timing was perfect. But never did the trouble codes say I had a bad ECM.

I now get a position sensor code but I am told that the GM replacement ignition module has a different wiring scheme than the Lotus, GM part module. But the car runs great and that was two years ago.
