My friend has the chance of buying a 1982 esprit s3, calypso red with BBS alloys (like to bond one i think) for 3300. Does this sound a good deal? 70,000 mls, history, engine rebuilt, new clutch. Bodywork is fine, Interior is grubby though. Any comments?

get an AA person to see it - DEFINITELY other than that I would have thought it was a very good deal.....especially if the paintwork is still looking spangly and nice Night

Never owned one, but old Loti are all about history - it's a fragile car that _must_ be cared for properly. One to watch for on the engine - rebuilds are often due to head gasket failure 'cos the early block stiffness at high rpm isn't all it could be. A proper rebuild with the latest bits will sort it but bodgers just put a new head gasket in and flog it...it lasts a few K miles and then goes again. Be warned a set of pistons and liners costs around 1K. Regards, AdrianR
