Hi all,
I have had a quote for an engine rebuild for a 1986 Esprit, total cost £2000.
I am in Manchester and looking for options. Maybe a replacement engine could be the way to go, so my question is does anyone have any recommendations on places that can help?
Thanks in advance.

http://www.lotusbits.com/ - Mike Taylor and his team have engines in stock and a lot of experience of rebuilds & improvements too.

What does 2,000 include, for a proper 'rebuild' by some one who knows what he is doing sounds cheap, cost me nearly 80 pounds just for the head gasket when ever I take the head off mine.

Put it this way for two grande i'd be dropping my Esprit off tomorrow....reality is the nicasil liners and pistons alone for the turbo are £1600. Thats just the parts then your looking at crank either regrind or replace. New valves, valve seats etc gasket sets (list goes on)...

I'm budgeting about £3500 - £4000 for engine rebuild. I might be able to get the price down to £2800 ish if I do the head myself

Seriously £2k sounds a bit dubious to me are they using lotus / lotus approved parts. I always find SJ Sportscars good.

Let me know how it goes as i'm about to start my rebuild at the end of the summer.

They were a lot less when the factory was shifting them on e-bay a couple of months ago - might be some in the parts sale this weekend.

What were Lotus shifting in a parts sale a few months ago? I understood that all the 910/912 engines and the 920's were sold off about 6 years ago

Complete piston and liner sets (of 4 of each) for between £250 and £400 - still some on ebay - and there's a big parts sale at the factory this weekend - but all parts must be ordered in advance - closing date is today.

The piston liner sets on Ebay are not £250 or £400 a set its per liner and single piston. Hence £1600 for a set of four. Already enquired....the piston sets NEVER come up at lotus parts sales as i've had the lists for these for past 4 years and never been lucky enough for these to ever crop up...they're like rocking horse s**t.

Thanks for mentioning it though but already been down both channels including sourcing from Garry Kemp.

Read the ebay ads - it clearly says "Set of 4x Piston/Liner Assy" - and that's exactly what they sent me when I bought them
4 pistons
4 liners
4 gudgeon pins
12 rings

Seller is lotuscarsltd. and there are currently FULL SETS OF 4 for 912, 910 and 920 engines on there.

I dunno - you try to do some people a good turn......

Ok go to your link and go to tthe charge cooled piston liner sets £250.00

it then states...

SPECIAL OFFER - Set of 4 x Piston/Liner Assy - A920E0019F

Part: Piston/Liner Assy

Description: Single piston/liner assembly - Compression ratio is 8.0:1CR

Car: ESPRIT TURBO 2.0LTR CHARGECOOLED

Delivery: In a box for protection

Description clearly states single piston and liner so for a full set it would be a grande.

I've rung them and spoken to them ages ago on this as ad is misleading. Also ad is for the 2.0 litre not the 2.2litre chargecooled 910 engine.

Not ungreatful by the way but just trying to get the point accross that the cheapest you'll get these for is no less than about £1600 for the 2.2 litre chargecooled engine....smile
