Hi folks
i have a 1988 turbo esprit which is suffering at the moment, when trying to accelerate or the engine is under load the car is bogging down and i have to struggle to pick up the revs. Once i can get revs up the car will fly and achieve boost no problem.
Things done so far
new plugs, coil, dizzy cap, rotor arm and ignition leads
carbs fully overhauled, balanced and new fuel filter, fuel pressure checked
all new silicone vacuum hoses fitted
checked timming and advance
substituted the AB14 amplifier no change.

as you can see i have been down almost every avenue, until i read some of the posts on here and i am now thinking that it lies within the distributor as some of the symtoms read close to what i am experiencing. I was therefore thinking of fitting the pertronix item but wondered if anyone can tell me what model i would need.

Thanks Richard

It doesn't sound like ignition to me. Have the Bosch air meter checked out. There's a damper in the inlet. Sometimes, with age, deposits build up around the inside of the inlet horn, resulting in the damper sticking. Carefully clean that area.

Similarly, inside the fuel distributor there's a piston assembly. Deposits can build up in the bore and cause the piston to stick. Carefully Clean it. If you aren't comfortable dismantling the fuel injection, take it to a pro.

Good luck,
Tim Engel

Hi Richard, do you know if your exhaust system has a cat or is catless? Sometimes the internals of this can fail and cause these symptoms you describe.

All I can think of its leaking somewhere, but sounds like you have this covered smile
