Please help.. water pump hose installation

I am trying to replace the "J" shaped hose that runs from the water pump, down thru the chassis and connects to the metal pipe that goes to the radiator. My car is an "88 Esprit Turbo. Is there some secret procedure to installing this hose? I am having a lot of trouble installing and would appreciate any advice.
