This is the latest second car fantasy for me:

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C76603

Is it possible to run one of these as a weekend car without it costing an arm and a leg? Reliability?

Barry Ely is just up the road from me so i would have someone near to fettle it.

Any views gratefully recieved

All you ever need to know about the Esprit is at www.lotusespritworld.com. Check around the owners pages and the threads under introductions where a lot of your questions will be answered. Its worthwile posting your interest there as well as its likely someone will know this actual car and its history. Its a very small community.

I have to say this one looks immaculate and if the history looks good and its mechanically sound, with all the early foibles sorted, its probably a good'un.

I'm on my second Esprit V8. Had the first for two and a half years and it was a money pit. Had the second since last June - only an A service and two new front tyres in that time. Nothing has gone wrong or broke, a totally different experience to the first one.

Lotus Esprit world and Lotus Esprit Forum - go there

Car looks fantastic and IMHO the colour combination of Gacier Ice blue and cream leather is absolutely stunning. Very very few ever made in that colour combination. Obviously you'd need tio inspect but the price seems about right

Barry Ely - Knows his stuff but personally I wouldn't leave one of my cars with him - go and look at his place before deciding yourself...

Gerald Turner (GST performance in Newmarket) is the person to use if you are lucky enough to become one of his customers - he doesn't advertise, he's that good..

cars mainly suffer from non-use...ok, we shouldnt drive such nice cars also in winter or during the raining-season....but frequent use, also for longer distances will keep them in good nick.

the construction of the 4-cylinder powered cars is not really complicated, but you need to spent lots of time for mantainance..also a bit of money!!

running costs are also depending on your skills and facilities.

air-condition is nice...if working....but its another item which could cause trouble and its definately "weight" which you carry on board.

also i wouldnt buy anything without a galvanized chassis.

I was in Long Stratton Lotus today (and sat in an Evora!!) and saw the Esprit. I have a V8 Esprit myself.
The car looks very nice in a great colour.
The only slight dissapointment was the interior didnt look quite as mint as shown in the Photo's.
Not bad at all but not mint.
Hope that helps you decide it is worth looking at.
