Any help appreciated. My friend has just lifted the engine out of his esprit for an overhaul. Problem is we've noticed that one of the turbos has suffered with corrosion so badly that the compressor side has cracked severely. Does anybody know what else these turbos are fitted to so that we can get one and send it off for a recon, otherwise he'll be stung with the surcharge cost. it's a small garrett that's all i know. I'm not that clued up on all things lotus..

Regards

Martin

They are T25's. No idea what other manufacturer uses them though, or if any of the housing etc is bespoke.

Cheers for that I knew they were smaller than a t3. fiesta rs turbos used a t25 so may be able to source a compressor housing from one.

Early Nissan SR20DET motors also ran T25's. I have no idea as to the Lotus implementation

You need to head over to Lotus Esprit Forum, V8 Technical Room. Dozens of threads on refurbishing turbos. This one has some useful info -

Martin,
Get your friend to give Universal Turbos a call on 01425 656900, we can offer a repair service & won't surcharge due to the condition of the original turbo, to be honest its quite a common problem due to their location

When I get mine redone in the future, I am considering Turbo beanies as well which will also help keep the road muck off them.
