love my new 2001 silver/black twin turbo v8. anybody know what i could expect in terms of hp gains with the factory race ecu? I already deleted the cats and have a free flow exhaust setup. Also does anyone else's v8 get very scary at 165 mph. This is my first Lotus I also have a wickly fast Ruf 930 Turbo. thanks for your help
A friend of mine had his race ecu dyno'ed and is faxing me the results. He said they saw 420hp at the rear wheels. If you do the upgrade you should buy the limited slip kit from Lotus as well. Per the previous post, if you drag race you will break the driveshafts...

ps. Your car may already have the high torque ecu, call Lotus with your vin and they should be able to tell you.

An alternative to the lotus 'race' ecu is available from moto-concept in germany. Its rated at 405bhp, and is MUCH cheaper than the lotus one..

Moto-concept also do a variable boost controller that will allow you to wind the factory boost DOWN (for better fuel economy on long runs) or UP for up to 450bhp.
If you have removed the cats and the factory silencer box, you've taken a lot of weight off the back of the car. This will probably be the cause of your high speed instability. The weight reduction will cause the suspension to rise, and hence the camber will also change. In addition, the silencer box forms part of the cars underbody aerodynamics, so without this the car will be less stable. Easy fix is to fit adjustable suspension, and restore the factory ride height and camber.

Suggest also fitment of the Sport350 front spoiler (same as what is now fitted to all 2002 model year cars). This has a lower front lip and will reduce the amount of air getting under the car in the first place.

Having the rear of the vehicle raised will decrease the castor of the front wheels. Castor is the "self centering" ablility of the wheels and perhaps is what is making the car feel unstable. The rear camber will change a bit - it will go more negative which in effect may make it a tad more stable, but when the ride height is back to normal by dropping the rear again, check your front wheel castor angle.
thanks all for responding to my questions. this is more info in one day than I have recieved in the past three months. I understand that the box in a pile but if it blows up i'll fix it. After the exhaust and cat delete what do you think would be the next logical perforamce mod? RACE ECU? pop off valve them race ecu? As for the handling I'm getting that straightened out this week. I ordered penske triple adjustables all around and I'm working on fitting eibach springs approx 1 3/4 ride hieght reduction with substainially stiffer spring rates. Note you have to modify the coller on the shock housing for the new springs. Lotus stock are a smaller than normal diameter.
KM - there is also an H pattern Quaife box, with helical gears, which would be more suitable for a road car than the sequential. These boxes are VERY expensive however!!
lotusv8man - your suspension mods sound very trick. How much did the penske set up cost you? What are you doing regarding tyres?? A softer compound will allow you to put your power down better.. Yokohama, Toyo etc.

KM - we've got a guy on the UK Esprit Yahoo group who's offered to engineer a linkage for this box, but needs a volunteer!
Old contact who used to work for Microsoft. I'll ask him if he minds me posting his info.
He did respond to my e-mail as follows:
"Mine is a sequential cable linkage supplied with the box. Lift collar to go into neutral and reverse.
They told us the design is v. flexible and can be used with various forms of assist and switches (e.g. paddles on the steering). Michael Quaiffe and I have the first two g. boxes."

Roy, in reference to your friend's racing ecu. Did he ever fax you the results of his dyno test? If so could you share the results with us. I have a 2001 Esprit v8 and have installed the quicksilver exhaust, k&n filters and the racing ecu.
