Hi,
The answer is on the www.espritfactfile.com site. ALWAYS check that site for technical points. It is really good. They suggest 5 different oils: Mobil 1 RS 5W50, Valvoline Racing Oil 20w50, Agip F1 Super motor oil 15w50, Elf Competition 20 W60 and the one I found quite easily in Belgium: The Castrol Formula RS 10W60. Many people believe it is the best.

I talked to a Factory Driver who told me that Lotus actually did testing on motor oils. The only oil that survived viscosity breakdown was a Fully Synthetic (Not Blended) 20w50 weight.

Dear Sirs,

I,m an indepenmdant Lotus specialist in Holland. I,m driving an 1983 Turbo Esprit now for eight years privatly. I always use the Valvoline Racing 20W50 and has got very good experiance with this oil. I use it in al my customer esprits. With the Castrol 10W60 my experiance is bad, because when the engine is older this oil is to thin and may cause engine damage. I once had an S2.2 in my workshop with low oil pressure and Castrol 10W60 in it. I changed the oil for Valvoline Racing 20W50 and the oilpressure was much better. The engine was stil weak, but not as bad as it seems to be.
