We're working on another of our guides and plan to feature the V8. If anyone has one and would like to help us with a studio photoshoot please get in touch.

Also, if you're experienced in this model please let me know. As usual we'll be contacting as many sources as we can to make the guide as complete and accurate as possible, so your input will be highly valued.

You can email me at: rogerg@evo.co.uk

Many thanks

Kylie

My flatmate owns the original espirit V8 press car and the one that did the gumball rally with some american actor chappy driving it. Has a lot of history and is in great nick.

Will ask him if he's interested.

This hit the mat this morning. Don't know if anyone on here put their cars forward, but R482 AAH is stunning. Has got me thinking about the replacement for the Elise.

Realistically (and I'm sure this has been done to death on this forum), what are you talking to keep one of these on the road? My Elise S1 is averaging about a grand and a half on servicing and repairs per annum. Would I need to double that?

I think your £1.5K is enough to keep a V8 going per annum if you find the right one with plenty of receipts and history.
I've had mine for 3 years now and the only thing that's gone wrong is a clutch slave cylinder pushrod snapped. The OEM was made of plastic. My Lotus garage machined a new one is alloy for me. One of my oil cooler pipe split before is was chafing on the horn and before christmas, my heater went cold. This turn out to be a £13 solenoid and the oil cooler was fixed with a stainless steel sleeve.
Servicing has cost me a few hundred each time.
I think my clutch will need doing at some point as now and again I get judder. Some days I get it and others it's fine.
Don't get me wrong, I've spent quite a bit upgrading brakes, wheels, round lights, wastegate actuators, filters, dump valves, clear indicators, centre exit exhaust, front spoiler, interior bits etc.

My car is on my site www.espritperformance.com along with my previous Esprits. It's also pictured on Lotus Esprit World 2008 calender, may edition.

Possibly even three times this, depends on how you drive it, how often and how pedantic you are at keeping it perfect. Ive seen a lot of crappy looking Esprits and running rough through negligence. If you need to save money on cars stick the with an Elise as a better option.

Ah, Esprit running costs. I totalled my 1998 GT-V8 in January after two 360s (degrees, not Ferraris) on black ice on the A1. My insurance company asked for the service record etc. to help them work out market value. I got £18,000 for it - exactly what I paid for it in October 2005. Which was nice.

Unfortunately, as I was running through the service record I decided to add it all up - £16,700, although that included upgrades I decided to do. Over two and a half years and 20,000 miles. Gulp. So my first Esprit experience cost me £34,700. I still haven't plucked up the courage to tell the wife.

I went into the deal with my eyes wide open, spent hours poring over it/in it/test driving before committing. I guess I was just unlucky.

I am in the process of acquiring another one. Apart from routine servicing over the past two years the current owner has put a set of tyres on. Oh, and a set of clear side indicator repeaters. Thats it.

I guess you just have to keep your fingers crossed.

Hello

The car in the studio shots is mine, the pics were taken a few weeks ago by Andy Morgan. I think he did a superb job.

As far as running costs of the Esprit go... they are not very cheap but I'd guess no more than an F355 or 360 which is a realistic comparison and I would not swap my car for either of em.
