When I took mine to Sportomotive last year I did tell them that it was the car from the video and they said no and that the car used was the ##52AEX one. (Which I had nearly bought from them in Jan 07....)

I expect it was Sportomotive who gave him the same wrong info.

I suppose its one of those chinese rumour facts that starts these things, someone overhears someone else saying, "Wasn't that the Esprit used in Top Gear?", meaning the same colour etc, then someone actually takes it literally, especially when selling it i guess.

No, this car WAS driven by Clarkson very briefly (I remember the "AEX" reg) in blink and you'll miss it moment, and still have the clip somewhere. It may also have been the one demonstrated by Gavin Kershaw on an Duke DVD and thrashed until the rear tyres collapsed (got that somewhere too). Not too many Laser Blue Esprit's around, and they all have had chequered lives (one was sold on Ebay from a recovery yard compound)

All comes to all who gives a stuff if Clarkson drove it, hardly makes it more special, but yes the facts are correct. The one from Top Gear with the Elise lights and magnesio wheels that you refer to in France is the one everyone remembers but yes this was TV featured too.

having just come across this posting, thought id add my two cents,
this car was featured on tv, in a Jeremy Clarkson program, top 100 cars,
i have the full vid, the car is the same one. in fact two of the pics on the website are actually stills from the film.
the website does not claim it was featured on top gear,
it says quote "As featured on TV with BBC top gears Jeremy Clarkson"
