Hi wonder if anyone's had this problem with an Esprit. My car's been running ok then noticed temp gauge gradually rising over a period of time (weeks). After investigation I changed Thermostat & sensor, looked for coolant blockages in pipework, then changed radiator, and now water pump, still it runs hot according to gauge in dash.No signs of cylinder head gasket leaks and I don't lose any coolant from header tank.Any clues cos I,m at a loss and it's starting to get expensive trying to find the fault. Thanks Tony.

Are the fans kicking in at 82-90deg and running all the time while starting to overheat?
check for air leaks if you have bleed your own system. This can be a problem too.

.Hi yes fans kick in as normal at 82/90 but then stay on as long as I am driving the car, temp tries to go up higher but fans keep it around 90's,and temp will not return to normal running temp unless I stop car leave it for an hour or 2 then same problem again.Possibly the engine is not as hot as temp showing on the gauge, and giving false reading ?,I have bled system a few times, seems ok no gurgling noises and header level stays full. Thanks for info.Tony.

Check to see if the gauge is accurate.
When the header tank is cold stick a kitchen thermometer in the coolant and run the engine and compare the gauge with thermometer.

I guess the 1st thing would be if the temp gauge is correct. In USA Esprit's the fans can be forced on with the A/C knob. I suppose the ECU could be off. Hope thr radiator core does not need to be replaced.

Maximus,

A common problem is crud build up in the radiator. If you have not done a radiator flush I suggest you give the car a couple of runs with a good radiator flush solution. Will make a world of difference and is a common service issue that many Esprit owners miss.
As this is the cheapest thing you can do for the largest reward it's worth the effort.

Good luck and enjoy your ride!
