Got a 6 speed!

I was at Lotus on Wednesday and they were selling the only 6 speed box built for an Esprit. The serial number on the box is "001"! It was used in a race car, rebuilt, and has sat in the warehouse every since! It has limited slip and all internal components are hardened! I can't wait to install it...

Now I just need some stronger driveshafts...

Roy - what is the basis of the box?? Is it a renault box with an extra ratio? Or is it sourced from another manufacturer? Or even completely built in-house at lotus? What's the story??

I don’t know the story yet. I know it is a Renault box. If you look at the standard box, you can see the extension that contains the 5th gear at the far end (from the bell housing). This box has a longer extension that contains 5th and 6th. I’m pretty sure Renault built it with direction from Lotus but I don’t know if it was the Lotus Sport (Race Team) or Lotus in the UK. The guys at Lotus USA are getting me the full story. I’ll let you know.

Thanks for the info Roy - any more information you can provide would be great. Maybe someone could look at putting a similar box into low volume production??
