Now the old girl is on top form I was giving it some "de-carboning" on the bypass the other night when there was a noise then drop in power....... followed by running on 3 cylinders.

Thoughts went to holed piston, dropped valve....

Investigations showed lack of spark to No2. Found ! one faulty coil pack!! despite them being in pairs i.e. you'd think youd lose two cyls, one new pack later (Cheers Garry) the old gal is back on top form.

Bad news: I still have Goodyear Eagles all round as per original design. The fronts are getting a bit down now and the rears won't be long. Am I the last SE still on "proper" tyres?

Any-one got any Eagles stashed away? I believe they are no longer available?

Goodyear Eagle F1s are still available - I've just put a couple on the front of my Omega this week. Try Black Circles, mine were £98 each. Having said that, they had to source a pair from France for me earlier this year for the back of my Esprit V8-GT as they didn't stock the bigger size.

FYI, the new Evo has an extensive tyre test. The new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric comes top by some margin. It wins both wet and dry objective tests and "subjectively it was voted best tyre on the dry handling course". I've been fitting F1s for years on all my cars following a previous Evo tyre test, when it came top then as well. I've never been disappointed with them.

I don't think the Eagles mentioned by the OP are the same as the F1 tyre.
The SE was engineered around the Goodyear tyre and picked up the knickname 'Eagle Chassis'. This lable was first used back in the late eighties when the car was being developed and it's this Eagle tyre that is being searched for.

Tyre technology has moved on in the past twenty years, so it might be worth experimenting with a new set of boots.

The se has the same tyres on the front i believe as the excel, the current most modern high performance tyre available for that in the right size, is the dunlop sp9000 which i think was intended mainly for the classic audi quattro turbo (80s wedge) which fortunately also uses the same 215/50/15 size

They are made in limited batches due to the small market so you might have to shop around, not sure if they have a size to fit the rear, but sp9000s are made in various sizes

Are you after the orginal Goodyear NCT Eagle tyres ?
I think that the fronts are 195 60 15 and the rears are 235 60 15.

It's the spped rating that's a bit more tricky. The original G cars had VR rated tyres but I think the later ones (inc SE's) has ZR rated.

If your after the rear 235 60 ZR 15 tyres I do have a small stash - used but with alot of tread on them.

Just put Goodyear back on my car after a stint with BF Goodrich. I got them fro Tire Rack for $78 a pop, but I had to go with 225 on the rear vs. 235 to get a match set. Car still rides rails and visually it is hardly noticed.
