Lead article in the new Evo - speculation that Lotus may have done a deal with AM, not BMW, for the new Esprit engine. That would be cool.

All the most recent rumours I've read have been for Toyota engines - a V6 for the 2+2 mid range car and a V10 for the Esprit. But as it's all speculation, the final car could use anything.

I spoke to journo friend of mine recently and he was saying there's been large German saloon cars being tested there, i can't recall which ones they were but it was either an S Class or an A8, so you have to wonder if they're using one of them, i think it might be the Audi though, i will ask again and see what he knows.

The large German saloon would probably be the Merc hybrid the Hethel guys are helping to fix all the bugs.

I would prefer the BMW engine to be honest, i know the Aston is "British" but i would prefer the german build quality for peace of mind.

It isn't going to get the V12, there isn't any room! So if it is Aston sourced, it is likely to be the very tried and tested Jag 4.2. Unless of course Prodrive decide to develop their own, but given the TVR situation I think they might shy away from that course of action.

Anyway, is it not likely to be Toyota based given their existing relationship?

IIRC the AMV8 engine starts off life as a Jag 4.2 but is shipped to Germany and tuned into a 4.3

So best of both worlds I guess.

The new Evo has an excellent piece on the very last Vanquish S driven to Scotland then West to East (on some of my 'local' roads to boot). Talking about the handling, Henry Catchpole says "...changing direction with much more fluency and immediacy and generally feeling more modern. Lotus's work on the chassis clearly paid dividends". Which I thought was a nice complement.

Look at New Esprit idea further down. How come Audi release a mid engined supercar for £70K just now......??
