I found a solution for the pathetic stock brakes on the 89 SE of mine. Contacted Porterfield brakes and they happend to have a set of Hawk brakes that they made up for someone that never picked them up. They were a full race compound, HT-9, but I had to try them. They matched the rears with a Raybestos ST-43 race compound.

Installed them today on turned stock rotors and WOW.
They do the trick nicely. I used to race stockcars and know the value and performance of good brakes. These do the trick for $280. Brake feel is great; very controllable with good feedback on the pedal and is even throughout pedal pressure. They really work well. Under very hard braking you can even lock up those large rear tires at 40mph if you really try.

Porterfield Enterprises in Costa Mesa, CA
Fronts are HB245 part # with HT-9 Hawk
Rears are AP97 part # with ST-43 Raybestos

Now for the Track day at Buttonwillow, CA

Hope this helps others. Email me with questions if you wish.
