Where does the -ve cable go from the battery?
Discussion
Tony,
Cable routing changed through the years. On early cars, the negative battery cable went directly to a stud on top of the upper left chassis tube, just forward of the crossmember. Then a braided grounding strap bridged the rubber in the right engine mount, grounding the engine to the chassis.
Engine movement flexes the braided strap and can cause continuity problems over time. With that set-up, I suggest adding a supplemental "cable" from the chassis ground stud to a bell housing bolt... preferably one of the starter mounting bolts.
Parts Manual, page 17.31A
In the Federal 1985 cars, the battery's ground cable goes directly to the chassis bolt near the right engine mount to which the afore mentioned braded ground strap from the engine bolts to the chassis. Same caveat about the braided ground strap.
Parts Manual, page 17.29A
Other ground strap locations.
The positive power distribution has three (+) connections at the starter solenoid stud. One cable from the battery, one heavy, brown wire from the alternator output, and another cable to the positive post in the front-right of the car. The latter cable runs down the right-front corner of the engine/ fuel tank bay, forward through the right sill area, and up to the binding bost near the A-pillar/ cowl.

Tim Engel

[quote=Tony8169]Thanks for the replys, i still dont know where to put my negative cable!!!
i'm sure i'll sort it!!quote]
Tony,
Through a grommet/hole in the floor near the battery, down and forward along the lower chassis tube (cable ties) to the rear bolt that secures the motor mount to the chassis. From there (same bolt), a braided cable goes to bottom-rear bolt on the engine mounting leg at the cylinder block.
