Need a part or a place to get it!!!
Discussion
Okay, My Esprit is the early S body... an 88'. As they do, my power window motor has totally crapped out and I need a new one (or rebuilt one). BUT!!!
My luck there is ALWAYS a BUT!!!
The early S cars have a 10 toothed gear (not an 8 toothed gear as noted by several web sites). The 8 toothed gear is not hard to locate, but it will not work with the regulator arm slotted for a 10 toothed gear...
Anyone have any suggestions for a replacement that does not involve trying to track down and change out the entire setup?
Anyone have a spare - or a 10 toothed they accidentally got before realizing yours was the 8 toothed gear? I cannot be the only person that has this much trouble because some of the web sites I looked at expressed frustration at getting 10 toothed motors that would not work on the 8 toothed arm! In short, just the oppisite of my problem.
Thanks for thoughts,

Have you tried the 'Normal Suspects' www.lotusespritworld.com/specialists.html
The specialists should be able to help. I use the South West Lotus Centre and they are always helpful.
Regards,
Peter.

Thanks for the tip... but they have not been able to locate a ten toothed motor either. As it stands, I have sourced a Merc. 10 toothed motor. There will be some modding to make it work, but it does not seem like much. It would seem more of a job to change out the regulator arm etc... I'll know more once I get the part and have time to fiddle with it... I'll post the process on the web if I can get it to work so that the other people out there that run into this will have a ref. Prob not many, but then again, there arenot many of us with these cars anyway!

Got the 10 tooth geared motor Thursday afternoon. As stated it was sourced from a Mercedes.
Anyway, I was able to make some nylon shims to correct the mounting distance that was off by a bit. The actual gear, while being 10 thoothed, was actually a bit larger in diameter, so I had to fit it a bit farther away - so the mounting holes did not quite line up. However, I only had to grind a hair off the outside edge of the top mounting hole.
In short.... It fits. And works.

The Lotus unit can easily be rebuilt provided the magnets in the housing did not powder up disintegrate... but then again your motor is prob. an 8 toothed unit and easy to replace!
I saw that Mercedes used lithium grease and not light oil to lube the bits that need it in the motor I sourced. I did not change it - and in fact put a little in the drivers side door for good measure. It instantly started moving better.
