Guys,

My car is a V8Esprit from 1996. Turning on the headlights only the (british) passenger side light pop up. On investigation the light housing that the headlamp folds down into is full of water.

I have tried to access the pod to clear the blockage from the drain but can not get past the pod.

Any thoughts?

Hiya

I would disconnect the linkage under the bonnet and lift the pod as high as possible and carefully use a coathanger to prod the drainage hole clear of the debris that is blocking the hole. Its only a 10mm spanner and take 5 mins! - famous last words!!

Thanks for the advice, just the job.

Now that the water has drained, the light will still not flip up when the light switch is pressed. Any thoughts on what I need to replace, I assume that there is water damage?

I had one of mine fail after a driving school in the rain.
the motor was a melted mess inside and then that caused the timer relay control box to melt too.

I got both parts from a local auto scrap yard, from a firebird of that era.. no problems ot put the parts in. a bit of a bitch to get the motors out of the doner car.

cost a few dollars.. works prefectly for 2 years now

Good plan mate.

Any idea what other cars used the same motor and relay? A firebird might be hard to find in the UK

Triumph TR7 use the same motors for the headlights.
Should be easier to get them here in the UK

Online at Rodney Dickman's Fiero Accessories - he also stocks rebuild kits for Lotus headlight motors.
