There was one of these spoilers listed on the lotus aftersales parts sale but i just got a hold of them and its long gone now. looks like i was too late... i NEED one of these spoilers VERY badly! I am willing to pay top dollar for one and even ship my SE spoiler back to you in return if you would like.

for those who dont know, these spoilers came on the US model 1993 esprits that were the transition cars when lotus went from the SE to the S4 models... they are slightly higher then the normal SE spoiler as you can see in the pictures below.

I will do just about ANYTHING for one of these and if someone locates one for me, there will be a finders bonus of $40 that I will paypal directly to the finder when I get the spoiler in my hands!

why not take a mould off a friend's? if they are that rare, it would be worth having an endless supply. the body parts i've made so far cost a small fraction of the prices lotus had in their clearance. some parts are more difficult than others to recreate, but a rear spoiler is quite straightforward.

Check with Cammack he has several different types of wings at the shop. It is 20-30 miles from where you live. He is a club member, I'm sure he will let you take a mold. I think he has a v-8 and a 180R wing

If you have any doubt about taking a mould off, get it done by a composites shop - you should get a nice durable mould then which you could take a good few components out from!

that's considered a small part. you don't need a backframe for it. just put a lot of wax on it, and glass over it. gelcoat first. one fiberglass layer on top while wet; more layers as needed at your convenience and discretion. the part lines for top and bottom halves should be obvious by looking at the original. if there is any doubt snap some pictures and i'll draw the proper part line locations for you.

Try Frank at Sports Car World (www.sportscarworld-lotus.com/) in Texas. He may have a wrecked Esprit about with the wing you want.

Ask DC from the club how to take a mold. I only mentioned his initials online becasue he is famous for taking molds(maybe I should say infamous). There is a story which has been confirmed as factual about his mold making ablilties or mold taking ablilites which ever you prefer. When he was restoring a wreaked salvaged Esprit he need a quarter panel that was just shreaded. In the early morning hours one Sunday he and a look out sneaked on to a car lot that had an Esprit. He was able to take a mold in the car lot and get away without attracting the attentions of anyone or harming the donor car. That was a pretty brazen act and stuff that legends are made of. That story still makes rounds once in while at the club parties.

well Mr. DC doesnt want to tackle the project because hes had problems doing a 90SE spoiler before...

so.... still searching for one, or else Calvin, do you know of any fiberglass composites shops that would do something like this for cheap in the area here?

I guess the question is how deep are your pockets and what are you willing to spend for the wing?

At this point I am not aware of a person selling a 93 wing especially rare becasue it was only used on the 93MY. I would say that a better bet would be to use a V8 wing which is available for about 5-6 hundred or use the SE wing as a base and mddify the struts to give more height. I have not really compared the 93 wing tips to the SE so the downward angles of the wing tips might need to be modified as well. The SE wing is also avaialbe for about 4-5 hundred. I would say you will spend another 5-7 hundred modifying and painting the wing to match the finish of your car.

it would be easy to just raise my current wing... but the wing ends would definitely need to be modded to follow the contour of the rear area...

90 on left, 93 on right:

you can clearly see that there is definitely a difference in the wing tips... the rest of the spoiler itself i believe is the same in dimension except the pillars which wouldnt be hard to raise and angle slightly... its currently being done by a LEF member as we speak!

so yeah, how practical would it be to try to mod the standard spoilers wingtips to look like the above images? is that too much weight on the ends of the wing? im sure its possible its just a matter of how to do it!

it isn't difficult, but it'd be just as easy to make a new one. why do you need to find a composites shop? there are no special skills or equipment required. materials cost and a few hours is all you'll incur in taking the mould.

Would it be easier to mod a '98 spec V8 wing?

GKP, thats an idea there.... i think those wingtips might be good if i raised the current SE spoiler and cut the ends off and attached the V8 style there... id have to get some measurements though... this might work with the s4s/sport 300 spoiler too

i did find one person that raised the spoiler on bigger stands and just extended the wingtips but they didnt angle it slightly like the 93 version so it looks a little "odd" to me... or maybe its just the bigger pylons its sitting on, or else that insane rear diffuser they added that are distracting me from the shape of the spoiler...:

other strategy is that there are two 1993 esprits on ebay as we speak ending soon, so who knows, maybe the next buyers dont like the spoiler!!! theres always hope!

just thought of something.... i know the s4 spoiler that sits higher up on the hatch doesnt span the entire width of the car like a normal spoiler but the wingtips look like they would be a good candidate for replacing the ones on the 90 se for that swept forward look of the 93...

any thoughts?

If you wanted a larger aggressive looking wing I would consider sticking a V8 wing on the back. I would take a measurement off Bob Druchel or Tony's V8 wing and see if would fit well on your car. If you are concerned about the mounting holes in the back lid matching I would just raise the SE wing and reconfigure the the ends. Any glass shop can mod the SE wing as it is not like making one from scratch.
