Major league eyewipe for the wife !!!! When the gearbox went two weeks ago, Lesley, my long suffering Lotus widow said in response to my suggestion that this was the time to upgrade to a stronger input shaft etc., that I was not to spend any more than it would cost to fix the faults to a standard level.
Well !!!...Second gear had disintegrated and damaged the bearings and the casing...And...The input shaft is 60% cracked. The guy reckons that I wouldn't get much change from £5,000 to rebuild it the way it left the factory. For substantieally less, I can get a rebuild with closer ratios, taller final drive. Faster thru' the gears, higher top speed and more economical cruising. YEEEEEESssss!!! Victory is mine. The Mega-upgrade for less than fixing it !!
