Right. Either..... try and get your arm behind the switch and squeeze it to compress the two bits of bowed metal or plastic above and below the sides of the switch,...or....Do the same thing through the stereo aperture. The switches are held in by the friction of these two items. Imagine an adult with their hands on their hips being stood in an upright enclosure like a phone box. If you are very careful and get hold of the switch all the way round ( with several popsicle sticks for example, the switch may "prise" out. Then you simply unplug it and plug the new switch in before testing and then pressing back in the dash. Pre 98 switches usually pull out of their sockets with your fingers. I doubt the system or switches are any different on your car, just located vertically rather than horizontally.
Thanks for youre reply,I did manage to place a small flat screw driver around the edges and carfully pull it out without damaging the leather. This was all because i was installing a one touch power window unit and i could not get to the passengers side harness, so i decided to go straight to the switch, the driver side i had no problem. Everything is installed my one touch windows work great. But im still left with questions on this center console. During this mission i tried removing the top cover that holds the center a/c vents and try to get to the switch from behind no luck. I then figured well i will remove the radio no luck either. There are two screws above the radio that go down and seem to hold the center part but upon removal of these screws nothing. The removal of the center top a/c holder cover exposes all the light switches which makes it easy for future repairs but how do you get to the Radio, a/c controls, lighter, Etc. There are no screws anywhere. Does the whole center console need to come off to get to these items? Ive heard the older models have screws in the small storage opening but nothing in the 2004.Any information is helpfull
