Hi guys. I have a red 1990 Lotus esprit Se and live in North Carolina just to let you know....Im getting it in tip top shape....So here are a few of my questions.

1)The drivers side gas tank has developed a slight leak in it. How long does it take to take the old tank out? Can I just take the old tank to get repaired? Is it a difficult process?

2)Im going to re dye the interior and get new carpet. How much of the interior do i need to dissasemble or do i need to dissassemble it at all.Where can i get a manual to learn how to take the interior apart if that is what is needed.Im thinking of using leatherique. Any tips on that type of product? How hard is it to put in new carpet?

3) Where can i get an updated memcal chip? I think Calvincnh at one time reffered me to someone who was selling them for around 250 dollars. It wasnt Andy Whittaker or Sanj though. To my knowledge it was the s4 chip. His name was John Welch I think...Anyone know him or how i can contact him?

I know these were quite general questions, but id appreciate all the help I can get.......Thanks guys.

Try www.moto-concept.de ( A German company but don't worry as the site is in English too ).

I have one of their chips in my GT3 which makes it much better to drive in general and increases power from 240 to 280 bhp.

John Welch is indeed the person with one of the lowest cost chip. It is a spare chip and not just reprograming. He can also make custom codes for it. He has a few other products like custom fuel injectors, electric charge cooler pumps kits with everything you need, X180 style front canards, upgraded ballbearing turbo, etc.

The carpet is easy. You missed out on the interior clearence sale at Lotus. They had seat leather and carpets for around $100 or less. Call Clyde at 1-800-24lotus he may still have some interior bits and pieces left for your car

I might have some extra seat skins available. I too, am redoing my interior and carpets. I currently have all the leather out of my car but also looking for a carpet supplier. I'm checking out PBC and then I know SJ Sportscars in the UK supplies as well. I'm just trying to stay away from the shipping charges from across the pond.

Hi there, Sorry i haven't come back earlier.
Interior, first the seats out. There are four bolts underneath the car which are usually cooroded depending where about in the world you live. These bolts can be accessed without lifting the car up if you have long arms. Make sure that you retain the spacers between the seat and carpet.
Start with the rear console pocket. Either side of it about a third of the way down, there is a flap in the carpet. Lift the flap and there is a long screw either side, take out. The rear console will now lift out.
Middle console where you rest your arm. There is a strap handle that goes right over the console, if you lift this up slightly and slide forward, you'll just see the screw on the sides of the console (this one took me a while to find). I think then there are two bolts at the rear underneath where the rear console would sit. Now the middle console will lift up. You have to get your hands underneath the gear knob and undo the elastic around the shoulder of the gear knob. The whole thing now should come off.
Front console. Two bolts near to gear knob. Take your stereo out if you have one. Also the heater control cover. Some of the knobs pull off and some have a small locking screw on the side of the knob. With the knobs off you can see the retaining screws for the cover, take off. Now for the tricky bit. You have to put your hand into where your stereo is and feel for two wing nuts on the underside of top of front console where is abuts the dash. Loosen as much as possible but do not take right out as these will fall inside never to be seen again. A bit of easing and the front console should come out. You will need to lift your binicle dash slightly because there is a spacer there and you don't want to scrape your leather!.
Side strips. Obvious bolts now visible and two screws behind where the front dash has been removed.
Next the door panels. loosen the screws inside the door release handle quite a way but do not take out. Now the two-piece plastic bezel will now come out. Push the handle through the door panel. There are two screws on either side of the door panel along the edges. The panel will now lift. With hands behind the panel disconnect the eletrical connections. Lift up over the top of the door.
I took off the switches to the door, which were little nuts to leave the leather parts only. You can also strip out the middle section if you desire from the rear if you want to do this seperately or paint it in a contrasting colour, I didn't bother.
All sounds long winded and you'll probably need to print it off but it doesn't take that long really.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Dave Walters
