Transmission noise
Discussion
Hello !
I have a curious noise coming from the transmission...
I have put the esprit ( 92 Turbo SE ) on studs and let the wheels turn free. One wheel is reving and the other one is not.
I stopped the engine and the wheel that is not moving is totally free and rev with hands.
The differential seems to be borken and some planetary gears seem to have loose some teeth.
Does anyone had the same problem ?

Is there something more than what you described that makes you thing gears are broken? If not, then what you describe is normal.
The standard transaxle uses what is called an open differential. Power goes to the one wheel that has the least resistance.
That can be a traction problem, and a positive traction/ limited slip differential interconnects the two output shafts in a variety of ways... depending upon the design.
With a limited slip diff and the car up on stands, both rear wheels should spin together. But with an open diff, only one wheel will spin.
With the car on stands and one or both rear wheels spinning, it's likely that there will be some mechanical noise.
So again, is there something happening that specifically makes you thing some gears are bad?
